Maria G. Gloria, known as Mimi to most, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on April 28, 2025, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family. She was born on October 7, 1934, in Laredo, Texas, to Dionicio and Maria Castro Ortega. She was one of six children. She also held a special place in her heart for Linda Ortega Trejo, who lovingly raised her and served as a guiding motherly figure.
Though her early years were marked by hardship and simplicity, she created a life rich in happiness, love, and faith. On January 15, 1956, she married Rudolph M. Gloria, and together they created a beautiful legacy as parents to eight children. Although she briefly worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Hermann Hospital, her greatest and most fulfilling role was that of a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured her heart into nurturing her family, and her home was always filled with warmth, prayer, and unconditional love.
A woman of deep faith, she was a proud member of Burbank Assembly of God, Sweetwater Assembly of God, and City Church for 36 years. Known affectionately as “the lady that prays,” her passion for prayer left a lasting impact on those around her. She carried a quiet strength and a gentle spirit that made her a source of comfort and inspiration to many.
She found joy in the simple pleasures–spending time on her porch swing, tending to her plants, and most of all, being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered and survived by her children, Robert (Stephanie) Gloria, Marina, Chad, Connor, Jack, Mollie, Rebekah, Olivia, and Naomi, Marie (Joe) Herrera, Melissa, Julius, Lisa, Jonathan, Zoey, Ryan, Sylvia Gloria, Gloria, Savannah, Reina, Christian, Emmanuel, David, Susan, Samira, Camila, Shane, Elizabeth (Butch) Byers, Angela, George, Austin, Mikaela, Sophia, Noah, Michael, Amanda, Adriel, Ezekiel, Levi, Marco, Frances, Mikaela, Joaquin, Mateo, Marc, Brandy, Ian, Jacquelynne, Ashley, Jaraman, Kylee, Giselle, Skylar, Patricia (Keith) Howell, Ashton, Erin, Emma, Madeline, Colton, Trae, Storm, Rudolph (Stephanie) Gloria Jr., Ray, Mason, Molly, Marissa, Andrew, Aubree, Rudi, Aliaz, Ace, Eliana, Peyton, Delaney, Paul, Alexandrea, Addyson, Nicky (Isaac) Salazar, Cain, Ariana, Christina (Derrick) Polk, Nicolas, Alicia, Israel, Marcel, Isabel, Cecily Fischmann, Eliana, and Frida.
She now reunites with her beloved husband, Rudolph M. Gloria, her grandson Joell, and great-grandson Jayden, who preceded her in passing. Together, they will rest in eternal peace.
Mimi’s life was a radiant example of devotion to God and family. Her prayers, presence, and tender spirit will be deeply missed, but her legacy of faith and love will continue to live on in the generations she so dearly nurtured.
