Marilyn attended Cy-Fair Schools, Fairbanks Elementary, Dean Jr. High and was a graduate of Cy-Fair High School, Class of 1963. She worked in several department stores while going to school to be a key punch operator. Marilyn was diagnosed with MS at the age of 21 years old, she also suffered several strokes around this time. When she was hospitalized she discovered the Dallas Cowboys. She became a life-long fan up until her death. We would give her a hard time about rooting for them, because as Houstonians, they were our natural born enemies. Marilyn also loved country music singer George Jones. She saw him several times at venues around Houston. She had most of his albums and CD's.
Marilyn attended Fairbanks Baptist Church her entire life. She was a leader in the Special Education Department, she loved helping with bible stories and crafts. Marilyn would sit with her special need friends in church so she could help. Marilyn had several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She loved them all but was especially close to the ones in Houston. On Sunday afternoons we would sit in the gazebo and watch the younger ones practice cheer leading, turn cart wheels, bounce balls up and down the sidewalk, Marilyn enjoyed them all.
Marilyn also worked in the office of the church folding bulletins and doing what ever she could to lend a helping hand. Another thing she loved was shopping, she was ready to go at any time! In later life she used Metro Lift to go to WalMart, which was a favorite place of hers. Besides buying clothing and sundry items, there was always candy in her basket, especially Snickers, for her friends at Park Manor.
Marilyn is survived by her sisters, Geraldine Nall and Martha Hollan and a host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will miss her dearly.
We would like to thank everyone at Park Manor of Cy-Fair for their loving care of Marilyn, especially these last few months when she was mostly bedridden. She would watch her stories on television and the Price is Right! Marilyn lived there for almost 12 years, she knew most everyone at the facility. We also want to say a special thank you to her most recent care giver, Mary Thomas. If she had not given up her Labor Day Weekends for the last 10 years, Marilyn would not have been able to continue visiting family at the Smith Reunions. Also, a special thank you to the Wald family for always giving support through the years.
Visitation with the family began at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2014 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services began at 2:00 p.m., in the Waltrip Chapel, with Chaplain Robert Mahaffey, officiating. Interment followed in Fairbanks Cemetery.
