Mark Prator passed away peacefully the morning of Tuesday, May 12th, surrounded by family. He is preceded in death by his mother, Georgena ‘George’ Prator, and his father, Miles Prator Jr. Mark is survived by his siblings: Diane Hunt and her husband, Barry; Drayton Prator and his wife, Cindy, and their children Madeleine, Miles, and Mae; Mary Prator and her son Drayton; and his beloved dog Pebble.
Mark graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1977 and went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University, now known as Texas State University, in 1984 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He worked for PSI throughout his career. From the beauties of the hill country to late nights on 6th Street, Mark was a true Austinite at heart. He embodied the old Austin lifestyle, from swimming in Lake Austin to listening to country music at Gruene Hall. Austin was his beloved home until 2021, when he returned to Houston to be closer to his family.
Mark lived life large. He was adventurous, fun-loving, humorous, and fiercely loved his hobbies. Early in life, he enjoyed playing softball with college buddies, affectionately known as ‘The Bank Walkers’. He enjoyed water skiing and scuba diving.
Mark’s love of the world through the lens of a camera led him to an African safari, the islands of Spain, Paris, and the Canadian wilderness. He was always ready to jump in the car for a road trip around the US to capture the country’s beauty. Through all his travels, Mark never met a stranger, just like his mother, George.
Mark will be laid to rest at the Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston, Texas, during a private ceremony with family. A celebration of life will be held in his honor at a later date, in true Mark fashion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to Pump Avenue Foundation or Pebble’s Life Fund GoFundMe page. A link to information for each organization is available under the ‘Donations’ section below.
