Martha Jane Newell of Huffman, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on November 24, 2023 at the age of 79. She was born on May 30, 1944 in Pasadena, Texas where she grew up the youngest of five children to Ples and Winnie Culbreth. She graduated from Pasadena High School in 1962.
After 20 years of dedicated service with the Pasadena Police Department, Martha retired as a Public Safety Officer in 2011. She was a beautiful, kind and loving soul that never met a stranger, and she took pleasure in the simple things in life. She loved The Lord and prayed for everyone. She also didn’t mind telling you exactly how she felt.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, James Andrew, and her parents Ples and Winnie.
She is survived by her son Ronnie Newell and wife Dana, and daughter Julie Shirley and husband Jason. She was the proud and loving grandmother to Cody Newell, Ronnie Newell, Patrick Newell and Natalie Shirley; and great grandmother to Adalynn, Patrick, Luke, Bailey and Ripp. She is also survived by her siblings Dolores Hill, Winston Culbreth, Elaine Dubose and Marie Roberts, in addition to many other loving family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation at Forest Park Lawndale at 6900 Lawndale St. on November 30, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A private graveside ceremony will be held for the family.
