

Mary Elizabeth Courter, devoted wife and loving mother, died peacefully at her home on November 30, 2011, at the age of 91. She was born in Perry, Kansas on October 26, 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Paul David Courter, and by her parents, Elmer LeGrande Brown and Margaret Delle Brown, of Perry, Kansas. She was a graduate of the University of Kansas' School of Business and enjoyed her career in business and school administration. She retired from the Spring Branch School District in 1984. Mary cherished her deep Christian faith and rich Methodist heritage and was an active member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed her membership in the Samuel Sorrell Chapter of the DAR. Mary will be remembered by her many friends for her character, love, strength, faith, wit, and example to all of a life well lived. She is survived by her 3 sons and their wives, Chris and Denise Courter, Kelly and Debbie Courter, and Pat and Wanda Courter; and by her grandchildren Adam Courter and Alisse, Seth Courter and Amy, Lacey Sullivan and Casey, John Courter, Sarah Courter, and Jay and David Spanjer. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapelwood Foundation or other charity.
