

Mary was born in Houston, TX on January 21, 1954. Mary was one of five children born to Antonio Burciaga Sr. and Otila “Villarreal” Burciaga. Mary gave her heart to the Lord as a child at St. Phillip of Jesus Catholic Church in the Houston neighborhood “El Dorado”. She graduated from Furr High School in 1973 and went on to serve the community, until her retirement in 2019 as a dedicated bus driver for GPISD.
Mary was preceded in death by her sister Belinda, mother Otila and father Antonio. She is survived by her life companion of over 20 years, Richard Miranda, brother Tony Burciaga Jr. (Aurelia), sisters Lydia Escalera and Margaret Box (Donald). She leaves behind the legacy of her love in the hearts of her children Adrian Ortega (Dominic), Freddy Salazar (Christina) Sandra Hernandez (Jaime) and also her 9 grandchildren Stephine (Jacob), Elijah (Danielle), Isaiah, Joey (Mariah), Joshua, Ezra, Ethan, James, Elaina, and 5 great grandchildren Joseph, Luke, Levi, Eathan, Naomi. Many beloved nieces, nephews and her numerous cousins in which she adored.
Mary was an active member of Hillside Church, finding joy in her faith. She found happiness in simple pleasures, spending cherished moments with her family. She also enjoyed spending time outside with her plants and took great delight in cheering on “her boys” the Houston Astros.
As we bid farewell to a life rich in love and devotion a service is scheduled at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00 am- 12:00 pm, Celebration of Life from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm and Committal Service at Forest Park Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Following the ceremony, a reception will be held.
The family extends their gratitude to Joey and Mariah Villanueva, Savanah Stewart and Angela Hernandez for performing Mary’s favorite songs adding a special touch to the remembrance of a life well-lived.
Mary Louise Burciaga will be remembered for her warmth, love and the great impact she had on the lives of those around her. Our hearts ache, but we find solace in the hope of a joyous reunion in the heavenly kingdom. May her soul find eternal peace in the arms of our Lord and Savior and Creator. May the light of her faith continue to guide us through the darkness.
