Ma Mattie saw her last sunset Tuesday, December 4, 2012. She was born September 16, 1913 in Dobbins, Tx., the daughter of Jeff and Julia Kinder. In 1941 she married Jack Bates; this union lasted for 41 years until his death in 1982. Ma Mattie was a devout Methodist and an active member of her church. She also worked many years for the Basilian Fathers of the University of St. Thomas. She leaves to mourn: 5 children, Doroghy Oler, Amelia Adams, Robert Bates, Julia Mathews-Thompson, and Janice Bates; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Ma Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, 1 sister, 4 brothers, and 5 nieces.
