Mercedes was born to Juan Duarte and Mercedes Carranza on February 19, 1924, in Monterey, Mexico.
Mercedes married Felix Martinez Sr., on December 19, 1953, and together they raised four children - Evangelina Flores (Jose Luis), Felix Martinez Jr. (Sabina), Grace Leal (Raymond Sr.) and Richard Martinez (Crystal). They have nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Felix Martinez Sr., her parents Mr. and Mrs. Juan Duarte and four brothers, Francisco Duarte, Conception Duarte, Martin Duarte, Guadalupe Duarte. She has one surviving sister, Alicia Trevino.
Hobbies: Gardening.
Visitation of Mercedes Martinez will be January 2, 2022 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, Texas 77023 between the hours of 5PM and 9PM.
A funeral mass is scheduled for Tuesday, January 3, 2023, 10AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7250 Harrisburg Blvd, Houston, Texas 77011.
A reception will follow at American Legion Hall 472, 7599 Ave. C Houston, Texas 77012.
