

Dr. Molly Jean Rambo Woods, 84, of Spring, Texas, passed away February 28, 2023. Molly was born in Richmond, Texas on October 15, 1938. Molly graduated from Huntsville High School and received a Doctor of Education from the University of Houston, and a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.
Molly worked at the University of Houston Downtown (including its predecessor college, South Texas Junior College) from 1961 to 2011 as Professor, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost; Associate Professor; Assistant Professor, Registrar and Director of Admission and Business Instructor. She was also part-time Business Instructor at Deer Park High School (1961-1964) and Business Instructor at Aldine High School (1959-1961).
Molly was very active in other academic pursuits, including: Charter Member and Board Member for Texas Women in Higher Education; President, Vice President, Secretary, Texas Chief Academic Officers - Public Universities; Member, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society; Represented the University of Houston – Downtown (UHD) in numerous UH System negotiations (UHD to offer graduate programs, various legal issues, etc.) and represented UHD in numerous negotiations and/or presentations and proceedings at the state level, nationally, and internationally (China, Mexico, Scotland, Brazil, Germany, Ireland, and Australia); UHD Faculty Award for Outstanding Service and President, UHD Faculty Senate.
She is survived by her children Christi Woods of Houston, Texas; her son, Edward Woods, daughter-in-law, Beth Woods and her grandchildren Micah and Daniel of Portland, Oregon; by her brother, Mike Rambo and her niece, Michelle Rambo of The Woodlands, Texas; by her very close friends including Paula Kay Moak, Sandra Peebles, Erma Eberlan, Elaine Pearson, Gail Evans, David Fairbanks, David Bradley, Don Bates, and Frank Boehm.
She is preceded by her husband, Ed Woods; her father and mother Horace and Evelyn Rambo; her father-and-mother-in-law W.G. Woods and Loda Marie Harrington Woods Mansfield; her sister-in-law Patsy Rambo; her brother-in-law W.G. “Dub” Woods; sisters-in-law Norma Joyce “Beanie” Roland and Barbara L. “Bobbie” Woods Herlitz; as well as very close friends, including Pat Reynolds and Cecil Murray.
In addition to her family, friends and career, Molly had a passion for a good laugh over a Coke or iced tea; attending book club and church; going to any show, parade or exhibit with family and friends; and collecting anything to do with roosters.

A visitation for Molly will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00AM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A funeral will occur Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
