

Dr. Myrell Denice McCormick-Myers was born November 29, 1954 to her surviving parents, Novis L. Duncan and Major J. Simmons, in Galveston, TX. She was called to her eternal rest on January 2, 2013, at Lufkin Memorial Hospital, in Lufkin, TX. Denice is survived by her husband, Prince Charles Myers, daughter, Jasmine Olivia Grimmett, son-in-law John Richard Grimmett, daughter, Rosaynne Camille Richardson; step children Barbara M. Myers and Prince Charles Myers II. She will also be sorely missed by pets (also considered children): Francesca (Frankie) - an African Grey, Robbie Dee, a Cockatiel, and their cousins Oatmeal, a Quaker Parrot, and his sister Alexis (Alex), chow mix. Denice will be dearly missed by her sister, Kesha Durante; brother-in-law, W. (Dee) Durante; nephew, Lucas Garrett, nephew Lance Garrett, niece Livya Mitchell and nephew-in-law Kyle Mitchell. Her surviving grandchildren include: Tyland N. Haywood, Taevon T. Chapman-Greene, and Ji Grimmett. Her step-grandchildren include: Ahryhana C. Myers, Demetrius D. Robinson, Carmello X. Myers, and NY'Arie R. Myers. She is also survived by her uncle, Earnest Caleb Duncan, aunt Mary Duncan, and aunt Totsie McDonald. Denice will be missed by a host of other relatives, friends and colleagues. Denice was a life-long student, with a zest for education, life and travel. She earned her Masters' Degree in Education in 2009 and a Doctors Degree in Education on December 15, 2012. At her last job, she worked for Stephen F. Austin State University as an NAEYC Coordinator. Her life was geared towards serving her students and devoting time to her family and co-workers. Denice traveled all over the world, learning different languages, including French, Spanish, Greek and Chinese. During the last two years, she travelled twice to China, and once to Costa Rico. Between travels, she spent time with her grandsons who affectionately nicknamed her ''NiNi''. She was an avid animal lover, and when she was young she wanted to become a veterinarian. Denice loved music, and played concert flute and piccolo for a number of school bands and orchestras. She was a member of the National Honor Society and excelled in academia. Denice is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert D. Duncan Sr. ,maternal grandmother Lizzie Baldwin-Duncan, paternal grandfather Madison Simmons, and paternal grandmother, Lenora Simmons. Also uncle Robert Duncan Jr., aunt Ruth Duncan, and aunt Jessie Duncan. Denice is preceded in death by her grandparents Robert D.Duncan Sr. and Lizzie Baldwin-Duncan and Major J. Simmons Sr. and Lenora Simmons. Also her uncle Robert Duncan Jr. and aunt Ruth Bell Duncan. She leaves to cherish her memories; parents Novis L. Duncan of Corrigan,TX and Major J. Simmons of Hartville,OH, husband Prince Charles Myers I of Corrigan,TX, mother-in-law Virginia Myers of Columbus,OH, sister Kesha Durante (W.D. Durante) of Atlanta,GA, daughters Jasmine Grimmett (John Grimmett) of Springfield, MO, Rosalynne C. Greene of Fairfax,VA., grandchildren Tyland N. Haywood, Taevon T. Chapman-Greene of Fairfax,Va., Ji Grimmett of Springfield,MO, niece Livya Mitchell (Kyle Mitchell) of Atlanta,GA., newphews Lucas Garrett, and Lance Garrett of Atlanta,GA., sister-in-law Priscilla Murphy-Myers, brother-in-laws Ronald Myers, Wesley Myers and Alexander Myers of Columbus,OH., step children Barbara M.
