

On July 29, 2017 in Houston, Texas, Norberto Mata, 99 years old, peacefully went to be with our Lord and Savior. He was born on June 6,1918 in Hunger ford, Texas to Hilario Mata and Anita Salinas. During World War II he answered the call to serve in the US Army Air Corp in the Pacific theater as an airplane mechanic. After the war he returned to Houston, Texas to start his own business for the next 40 years, Mata’s Repair shop, repairing appliances.
In 1961 God called him to the ministry pastoring Monte Olivo and Templo Sinai during the next 40 years in his community.
Norberto is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jovita Vasquez Mata of Houston Tx and by his sister Jesusa Barnett of Broken Arrow, OK. He is also survived by his children, Esther Ortiz, Norberto Jr and Viola Mata, Ruth and Bradley Dawson, Sylvia and Adam Aguilar, Connie and Martin Ochoa. Also by 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Isaac, Raymond and Hilario Mata, and his sister, Eufemia Mata.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Thursday August 3, 2017 to be followed by a memorial service from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Grand Chapel at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 am with Reverend Richard Arrieta of Templo Bethel officiating. Graveside service and interment will follow.
