

He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, piloting a B-26 as a member of the 397th Bomb Group assigned to the 597th Squadron. He flew two missions on D-Day and on 24 June 1944; he was shot down during a bombing mission north west of Paris. He was captured by the German SS and sent to Stalag Luft III, where he was kept for eleven months. On 8 May 1945 he was liberated by the U.S. Army led by Gen. Patton.
Returning to the states, he received a business degree from the University of Arkansas. He was employed by Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America for 34 years.
Mr. Seipel was preceded in death by his wife Lois Winifred Seipel and daughter Marian "Mindy" Rockenstein. Survived by his daughter, Lynn Seipel Dobyanski and husband James; granddaughters, Melissa Trantham and Kimberly Novak; son, Jon Seipel and wife Peggy; grandson, Collin Seipel; daughter, Janet Kirkland; son-in-law, Scott Rockenstein; grandchildren, Alison and Jeffrey Rockenstein; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Sofia Trantham, Hannah, Luke and Samual Novak.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Waltrip Funeral Directors. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011 at Fair Haven United Methodist CHurch, 1330 Gessner, Rd. Bob Luton, officating. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
