Her father was and Iron worker and War Veteran, and her mother was a Hospital Housekeeper.
She was raised with her older brother Raul (Butch) Garcia, he and his family were an important part of her life until his untimely death due to illness in 2000.
Patricia attended Durkee Elementary School then went to Fonville Middle School.
She was a good student and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1973. The early seventies was a racially charged time in her school. She told many stories about the conflicts as they progressed through integration.
Patricia started working at age 15 at Parkway Hospital as a lab technician, in the same hospital where her mother was working. She worked at a number of hospitals in the Houston Metropolitan Area. The last place she worked was at Doctors Hospital East Loop.
While growing up she became an excellent chef learning from her parents, both of whom were excellent cooks in their own right. As anyone who visited the Conatser household remembers, if you left the house hungry it was your own fault.
In 1978, while married to Raymond Baldwin she had a daughter who she named Angela Jolene Baldwin. Patricia and her daughter lived with her parents for a time before moving into an apartment nearby.
In 1988 friends introduced Patricia to Steven Hutchinson at a thanksgiving dinner at her friends house. The relationship blossomed and became serious very quickly. She married Steven on January 21, 1989. They welcomed their new daughter Kristianne Delene Hutchinson in October.
Patricia, Steven and family joined Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1990, where they have maintained membership through present day. She was always volunteering to help with the Youth Group, Vacation Bible School and other church functions. She was also elected to several church offices over the years.
Late in 1997 Patricia developed polycystic kidney disease. This required kidney dialysis treatment three times a week for four hours at a time. She continued working for over a year but eventually retired on disability.
She applied and was accepted on the transplant list to receive a kidney donation. She went through a very stressful time for over a year on the transplant waiting list. On April 14 of 1999, she received a kidney transplant. This began the anti-rejection drug regimen that at one time had her taking 68 pills per day to maintain her immune system in a suppressed state so that she was healthy enough to not get ill but not healthy enough for her immune system to get strong enough to attack the donated kidney. This required her to take her medication with her everywhere she went.
Medical issues continued to be a challenge over the years that required surgery several times. The donated kidney failed after nine and a half years and was removed (A good run for a kidney donation). She went back on dialysis treatments in December of 2008.
She survived colon cancer in September of 2012, along with heart problems and circulation issues over the next two years.
She was being a mother to her children, a Nana to her grandson, sister to her brother, a daughter to her parents and a wife, while all of these were happening in her life.
On October 10th. 2014 she entered the hospital due to reactions to medication. Once that was resolved, circulation issues resulted in multiple surgeries and the amputation of her left leg below the knee. She had a heart attack while in the hospital that sent her back to ICU again. A severe bleeding ulcer occurred that required two emergency surgeries and left her with abdominal drains that would require nearly three months to heal. A severe antibiotic resistant infection sent her back to the emergency room and ICU again. She then developed pneumonia. The pneumonia combined with the infection ended up being too much for her to overcome and she left us on June 8th 2015 at 1:30pm.
She spent nearly eight months in the hospitals fighting a series of health issues. She fought the good fight. She will be missed by all but we know that she is with many people that she has been missing for years.
She is preceded in death by her brother Raul Garcia.
Her father Almon Conatser.
Her mother Maria Louise Conatser.
She leaves behind her husband Steven Hutchinson, two daughters Angela Boehm and Kristianne Hutchinson-Salazar and her husband Macario Salazar. She also leaves behind her only grandson Connor Reese William Hines.
