

Paula Thomas was born in Houston, TX on April 6, 1955, the 5th child of the late Mr. Robert and Carrie Thomas. Paula attended Eighth Avenue Elementary, Harper Junior High, and Abraham Lincoln Senior High School, (class of1974). She was a member of the archery and volleyball team, HERO/FHA, and Girls Council while working part-time at Bell Daycare. She attended Texas Southern University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Upon graduation, Miss P. Thomas taught at Project Head Start for 5 years, and later she began teaching at Thurgood Marshall in the North Forest Independent School District. Here she was awarded her 20 year pin in 2012. Her love for teaching and her students was uncontested, as she continued to teach until her death. Sis. Paula united and was baptized at Peaceful Rest M.B.C. in 1971 under the leadership of the late Rev. Joe Culton. She later united with Lyons Unity M.B.C. under the leadership of the late Rev. O. C. Johnson where she was a member until her death under the leadership of Pastor W.A. Jordan. Sis. Paula was granted her angel wings on August 28, 2012. Her final days were spent surrounded by her family, students, friends, and colleagues. She was preceeded in death by both parents and 2 older brothers. Miss. P. Thomas devoted most of her time teaching children, completing scholarly projects, and spending time with family. She loved helping others and was always there for support and camaraderie. She was a great listener and always offered sound advice. Her life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which she lived. Her gentle smile, sense of humor, and quirky demeanor brought so much joy to others.
