

side on Wednesday January 30, 2013 at age 91. Born August 16, 1921 to Charles and
Alvina Hildebrandt, Pearl attended Trinity Lutheran grade school and graduated from
Jefferson Davis H.S. in 1939. In early 1944 she journeyed to San Diego, California
to visit her older brother Alan for a few days who was on leave from the Navy
preparing to ship out to the Pacific theater. Alan introduced her to one of his
handsome shipmates, Melvin Walker, and Mel and Pearl knew immediately they were
right for each other and married February 26, 1944. The loving marriage lasted 64
years until Mel passed away in 2008 at age 98. Besides being an extraordinary
mother to her 2 children, throughout her life Pearl was a mainstay at Houston’s St.
Mark Lutheran Church of which she and Mel were founding members, freely
volunteering countless hours to the church and its school for more than 6 decades.
Besides Mel, Pearl was predeceased by her parents and her brother Alan Hildebrandt.
She is greatly missed by her surviving son Alan C. Walker and wife Carol; daughter
Cheryl “Suggie” Walker Casey and husband Shawn; granddaughters Shari Walker
Conner and husband Brian, Kari Walker Coffey and husband Frank; Carolyn Casey
Figueroa and husband Rick; Regina Casey; grandsons Clifford Casey; Matthew
Casey and wife Stephanie; 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
whom she greatly loved and who loved her back. Family will receive visitors at
Waltrip Funeral Home, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston 77055 on Sunday Feb 3, 2013
from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Funeral is Monday February 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St Mark’s
Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl, Houston, 77055. In lieu of flowers the family
requests that you make a contribution to St. Mark Lutheran Church or the charity of
your choice.
