Rafael Sanchez

Rafael was born to Luís and Rosa, January, 1932, in Harlingen, Texas. He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1950. He served as a U.S. Army National Guard Sergeant for 16 years.

He married Maria Orália Martinez in 1956, and they lived in Houston, Texas. Together they raised 6 children: Rolando, René (Bernadette), Roxana (Mario), Rebecca (Steve), Robert (Ana) & Rosa.

He is survived by his wife, 6 children, 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for 57 years, catechizing hundreds of children and their parents. He understood the challenges of being human and encouraged people to love, accept and forgive themselves and others.

Rafael learned carpentry and masonry skills from his father that he used to refurbish furniture and renovate his house. This was his favorite hobby and past time. He was also involved in the Knights of Columbus and the Cursillo Movement - ¡De Colores!

A visitation for Rafael will be held Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 6723 Whitefriars Dr., Houston, TX 77087. A recitation of the holy rosary will occur Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 6723 Whitefriars Dr., Houston, TX 77087. A funeral mass will occur Monday, March 21, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 6723 Whitefriars Dr., Houston, TX 77087. A burial will occur Monday, March 21, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023.
