Retha Evelyn Els, born February 1, 1928 to Barry and Effie Johnson in Gary, Texas, passed away March 2, 2010 in Houston. Retha was an excellent seamstress, and many homes are graced with her beautiful designer drapery. She loved to dance, and loved her large family. Surviving her are ex-husband of 35 years, Allen Edward Els; children, John Els and wife, Shirley, Carl Els and wife, Katie, Kenny Els, Randy Els and wife, Sandy, and Anna Bierman and husband, Billy; grandchildren, Erin, Wesley, Cary, Clint, Jennifer, Karen, C.J., Ryan, Jeff, Joey, Jessica, Kevin, Brandon, and Brady; 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. Retha was preceded in death by 14 siblings.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at Heights Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Woodlawn Garden of Memories, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas.
