On November 12, 1944, Richard and Ada Anna McWhorter welcomed Richard Gerard into the world. Dick grew up in Port Arthur, Texas and was a sophomore at Thomas Jefferson High School the year Janis Joplin and Jimmy Johnson graduated from the same school.
While in high school, Dick met and fell in love with Barbara. They would elope and move to Houston so that Dick could begin his career in the world of accounting. Working while also attending Lamar College, Dick began to climb the corporate ladder from bookkeeper to controller of an engineering company.
The bright future that lay ahead of him was tragically altered while on a family vacation in April of 1981. While heading to Niagara Falls, the family was the victim of a fatal car crash, Dick was left permanently disabled while Barbara and Susanne were killed.
Throughout the remainder of his life, Dick was surrounded by the unwavering love and support of his family. His parents, siblings, and extended family stood by his side with unwavering dedication, providing him with comfort, care, and companionship throughout his journey. Their steadfast love and devotion were a testament to the power of family bonds.
Dick's life may have been marked by adversity, but it was also a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love. Though he may no longer be with us in body, we find great comfort and peace knowing that Dick is full restored and reunited with Barbara and Suzanne.
He is survived by his sister Helen Jeschke and his sons John and Andy.
