He graduated from Baskin High School in 1944 and entered the Merchant Marines as a radio operator. Married to LaVerne for 41 years, they lived in Pearland, Texas and raised 4 children. LaVerne went to be with the Lord on November 18, 1987. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Garner; daughter, Debbie Thomson, and grandson, Jason Bezemer.
Robert is survived by his wife, Bettye Knotts Garner of 12 years; daughter, Nancy Garner and son, Robert Garner. He also leaves his sister, Dolly Carson; grandchildren, Robin Mcmillen, Faye Bezemer, Ryon Garner, and Haley Garner to cherish his memory.
Robert worked as a district manager for Southwestern Bell for 37 years. He enjoyed gardening, grafting trees and reading. He was active in his later years at First United Methodist church.
A chapel service is scheduled for February 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale at the Chapel of the Angels.
