

Robert W. Hauck, 96, passed away on December 25, 2020. Bob was born December 26, 1923 in Bellingham, WA and graduated from high school in Everett, WA. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Force Meteorology program and was sent to the University of California at Berkeley for one year to study basic college courses in preparation for training in Meteorology. Following that year , the AAF decided that they didn’t need any more weather officers and Bob ended up as a navigator on a B-17 and went through overseas training in preparation to participate in the European Theatre of Operations. However, the war in Germany was winding down and B-17s were no longer needed. Bob was subsequently discharged. While training as a navigator Bob married a Houston girl and so he decided that he would establish a home there.
Subsequently, he entered Rice Institute (now named Rice University) and ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Following several different jobs in the Houston area, he accepted a job with the Texas Highway Department (now called the Texas Dept. of Transportation). Eventually, he was put in charge of the design section of what was then called the Houston Urban Office charged with the responsibility for design of Houston’s freeways.
Following 26 years with the “Highway Dept.”, he retired and accepted a job with the Metropolitan Transit Authority to establish an engineering group to design HOV lanes. After 12 years with Metro, Bob again retired this time for good.
Bob was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years, Gladys. Subsequently he met and eventually married Lucille (Lou) Campbell who shared his life for nearly 20 years before she passed away in March of 2017. Prior to her suffering a stroke in 2007, they travelled a lot in the U.S. and Canada. But the trip she cherished the most was to Hawaii. Bob is survived by his son William A. Hauck, daughter Marie Kirby, daughter-in-law Mandy Hauck, a brother William V. Hauck, granddaughters: Krista Myer and Kara Nielsen, great granddaughters Elena Myer, Adley Nielsen, Valerie Myer, Verity Nielsen, great grandson Knox Nielsen.
In his younger year, Bob enjoyed travel, Fishing, canoeing, backpacking, racquetball and contract bridge. He was also active for many years in Riverside Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, they family request that contributions be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, The Nature Conservancy (a favorite of Bob’s) or a charity of their choice.
