

Roy H Wunderlich left this earth for his heavenly home on September 7, 2011 at the age of 86 years. He was born at his childhood home on E. 25th Street and N. Main on February 15, 1925. He was a lifelong resident of the Heights area. He graduated from Reagan H.S. in 1943. He then enrolled in the US Army Air Corp and served during WW II until his honorable discharge in 1946. His civilian career was with Swift Meat Company until he retired 35 years later when they closed the Houston plant. He then stayed at the same facility working for the new owner, Freedman Meat Packing Company, for several more years.He met his wife Adelaide, of Missouri, and married in November 1946. They were married for 38 years until she preceded him in death in 1985. Roy outlived his parents, Fred and Elenora Wunderlich, his brother Eugene Wunderlich, and sister Grace Donner. Roy is survived by his sons Terry W. Wunderlich and wife, Jean, of Huntsville, TX and Larry R Wunderlich and wife, Trish of Houston, TX. Roy had 6 Grandchildren: Terie Leigh and husband Kevin Sabrsula of Cypress, Sam Wunderlich and wife Sandy of Cypress, Michael Clayton Wunderlich of Huntsville, Michele and husband Chris Shifflett of Spring, Jennifer and husband, Jeff Cohen of Austin and Brandy and husband Chrisitian, of Houston. Great grandchildren numbered 6. Roy enjoyed the company of long time friend Dorothy Kelly, of Houston, in his retirement years.Roy was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at 15th and Arlington. He served as Trustee for many years and served as Sunday School Treasurer for over 50 years. Roy was also an officer in the Heights Little League during the 1950s-60s.Visitation will be on Sunday, September 11th, from 2-4pm at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd. A funeral service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 306 E. 15th St, on Monday, September 12th at 10am, followed by a graveside service at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Roy requested donations be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, or for the restoration fund for the old sanctuary, as follows: Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF). All donations in excess of $250 will receive a tax deductible receipt from GHCF. Check donations made out to “Greater Houston Community Foundation" should be mailed to 4550 Post Oak Place, Suite 100, Houston, TX 77027. Indicate "Immanuel Restoration Fund" on the check memo.
