

Mrs. Ruby Lee Chandler was born to Mr. Eugene and Mrs. Mittie Smith in Needville, Texas on October 3, 1919. Due to unknown circumstances, Mrs. Ruby Lee Chandler was lovingly raised by Minnie Johnson along with George, Jr., Bruce Henry, Charlie, Rinn, Marcus, William, and Texana James and Clara Harris, welcomed Ruby with open arms. Mrs. Ruby Lee Chandler was also sibling to the following: Reverend Dr. Betty Anderson, Andrew Smith, Mr. Frank Jackson, Mrs. Doris Leitha Hall, and Mr. Joe Henry. Mrs. Ruby was schooled in Fort Bend Independent School District where she attended Concord Elementary and A. W. Jackson Junior and Senior High School. Her education was interrupted when Mr. George Johnson needed her assistance on the family farm. In 1943, the family moved to the Acres Homes Community where Ruby was able to finish her schooling at Booker T. Washington High School. While there, she was able to obtain a Cosmetology Degree with such certifications as hair weaving. During the war, she met and married Mr. Johnny Freeman in San Francisco, California. This marriage was later dissolved after two years and no children were born from this union. Shortly after, Ruby was called to come back to Houston, Texas to care for the ailing George and Minnie Johnson. While there, she reunited with her Booker T. Washington classmate, Mr. Johnie Ed Chandler, Sr., who had a son from a previous marriage, Malcolm Jerome Chandler. Mr. Johnie Ed Chandler and Ms. Ruby Lee Johnson were united in the bonds of Holy Matrimony in 1952, and from that union one son was born, Mr. Johnny Ed Chandler, II. Mrs. Ruby Chandler accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age in Spring Green, Texas, where she was baptized in the Muddy Brazos River via Galilee Baptist Church. In 1938, with the move to Houston, Texas, she united with Little Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor S. B. Parker. Little Zion Baptist Church later became Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained faithful until the Lord called her home. She is survived by her younger siblings Reverend Dr. Betty Anderson(Milton Gooden), and Mr. Andrew Smith. She leaves in God's care a devoted son Johnny Ed Chandler II and stepson Malcolm Chandler. She also leaves in mourning her grandchildren: Johnny Ed Chandler III, Candice Lynn Jackson, Aisha Chandler, and Sasha Chandler and great grandchildren: Jyniah, Jaiden, Colin, Jayda, Lilliana, and Parker Jackson; along with a host of relatives and special friends. She is also lovingly survived by the entire Johnson Family.
