
Ruth A. Thomas was born December 23, 1945 in LaGrange, Texas to the proud parents of Deacon Coy and Sis. Jennie Mae Gates whom both preceded her in death. She resided in Fayette County Texas in Fayetteville, Texas. She attended public school in LaGrange, Texas and graduated from Randolph High School. After completing her public education she moved to San Antonio, Texas to begin her professional career. She took up nursing after the completion of her studies. She was employed by the Harris County Hospital District at Ben Taub Hospital in the emergency room for seventeen years, after which she retired. She was also employed with several other healthcare facilities before fully retiring. While employed at Ben Taub Hospital she met the love of her life Reverend Willie O. Thomas. They married June 17, 1978 and to this union one child was born, they named him William Rutherford Thomas. She accepted God at an early age when she was at home and was a member and baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She has been under the leadership of Dr. E. A. Davis during his pastoralship at First Mt. Olive Baptist Church and then Galilee Missionary Baptist Church while waiting on the Master to tell her “Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant. Come On Up a Little Higher and I Will Make You Ruler Over Many.”
She was preceded in death by sister- Alice Mae Gates, niece- Yolanda McPhee, mother- Jennie Mae Gates, father- Coy Gates, sister- Deloice Wilson, son- William R. Thomas. Two special aunts- Myrtle Osby and Etta Johnson, One special uncle- Aaron Wilkerson.
Ruth Leaves to cherish her memory, her husband- Reverend Willie O. Thomas, one grandson- Maximilian Rafael Thomas,two sisters- Coya Gates of Houston, Texas and Dorothy Lewis (Arthur) of Fayetteville, Texas. Mother in-law- Elna Etta Thomas, brother in-law- Louis Earl Thomas of Houston, Texas. A very special niece Shelby Washington and two very special nephews, Cedric Gates and Anthony Lewis, and uncle in-law Henry Thomas. She also leaves to cherish her memory Francis, Jerrylyn, and a host of other relatives and friends.
