When Ruthie’s children were young, the phrase “stay-at-home-mom” didn’t exist. It was normal for women to stay home with the children while their husbands worked. But even by the standards of the era, Ruthie was an exceptional wife and mother. For almost 50 years, she devoted much of her time and energy for Kim, her daughter, who had a disability and was unable to care for herself. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family.
Ruthie cared deeply for her family and friends and was a devoted member of the United Pentecostal Church of Madisonville. She loved travelling with her family to state parks and other fun vacation spots all over the US. They would go to the family reunion every year they were able to. She enjoyed cooking and canning in her younger years. Ruthie made the best chicken and dumplings, even though she didn’t like them herself. In her last year, she loved being cooked for and spoiled by her granddaughter, Taryn. She would say, “I cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner for everyone all my life. I’m loving this!”
She is predeceased by her late husband, Bobby Glenn Blackburn, daughter Kim and son David.
She was survived by her son, Bobby Max Blackburn (sp. Shelly Blackburn), Granddaughter, Tiffany Blackburn and Grandson, Jason Blackburn (sp. Taryn Blackburn).
