I am so saddened to hear of Sam's passing today.  I was his neighbor on Leeland for a short time as he and his young family moved to West U. to be nearer to family.  I found out from another neighbor as we were discussing fences and I asked him if he knew Sam as he asked me not to take down the chain link fence his dad had put up and so I still have the chain link fence...I continued to see Sam occasionally in this part of town, mainly at Kroger on Polk.  He always asked how my son was doing as Sam knew he was going through a very serious and dark time.  I will never forget the kindness he showed my son...RIP, Sam.  Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and your perpetual light shine upon him.

well ,just heard about Sammy ,.went looking for him last week ,as it been a while since i heard anything from him . left a few messages with a few of our mutual friends (fishing buddy's ) .John called me around noon today gave the news ,so sorry for his family and friends . 
 i first met Sammy aboard Capt. Troys vessel heading for adventure on course for the Chandelier Islands off the coast of Louisiana .John boy (the legendary flats master himself ) had brought Sammy along with the fly club . the drill went like this the double trouble stayed anchored up in deep water a 1/2 mile or so off the islands and tendered a fleet a small boats that were issued to get around the bays and islands to fish . that first afternoon a number of use motored over to one of the bigger islands and made a grueling march across muck and sand to reach the surf.Sammy and myself went toe to toe for hours catching big surf run trout (one of his favorite fish )and huge red fish .the rest the fellows that made the march to the surf grew hungy and tired and headed back to the double trouble .Not Sammy and I ,we both stayed and fish hard until dark .i gave all my fish to Sammy ,we brought in one the biggest strings of huge trout and reds you'd ever seen . i Knew Sammy was special sorta fellow right off. thought out the years ived been privileged to fish with him a few times and he would always call to talk fishing . he sure was Special and i sure did enjoy talking with him .i was supposed to make the trip he was putting together with Capt. Troy and i had invited him more then once to come out to Rosenberg and shoot doves or tag along on an elk trip in mountains. Sure am going to miss youmy friend . Ray

I just read where tomorrow is the last day that we can post on this site.  I needed to put these words in print to find comfort in experiencing this great loss.  It's been a little over a month and my heart just breaks every time I think of Sam, my baby brother (my only brother).

If you read all the testimonies written, you'll know that Sam not only touched so many lives, he enriched them.  He possessed that rare quality of genuine care for everyone he met. He was so much fun to be around and lit up the room with his presence.  Always smiling and joking.  I don't think I have any pics of Sam where he's not  flashing that sparkling smile.  I will miss seeing that smile of his.

When I knew Sam was coming to visit, I'd always be sure to have the fridge stocked.  He loomed almost a foot taller than I was, like a gentle giant.  He would come in, give me the mandatory "sister" peck on the cheek, head straight for the fridge and with the door open, looking straight at me, he'd say "Watcha got to eat?".

At his service I found out that he did that with everyone.  I think only Sam could get away with doing that and that's what everyone loved about him.  He made himself at home and just loved being himself.

Another thing Sam did at every visit was after eating, he'd lay on the couch and watch some TV, then he'd head upstairs.  I would ask my husband, "where's Sam?" and he'd say he was up in the "library."  At least he had the good sense to go upstairs and not to my guest bathroom.  And if he was tired, he'd stay upstairs and take a quick cat nap.  Seeing Sam in a twin bed is hilarious, he looked like a beached whale.  It's funny how those are my favorite memories of Sam and those are the memories that make me smile and remember the fun loving man Sam was.

Losing him is overwhelming. My heart still breaks when I think of him, but my memories make me smile and I know I'll see him again.  Love you so much little brother; Rest In Peace.

 It is taken me this long to reflect back and read some of the messages only met Sam maybe nine years ago he became my best friend said we are more like but he was always more  I am sad because of all the good times we missed ever sat for all the good times that we had but I will no longer have anymore he was the most giving energetic fun and truly kind person I knew. He taught me how to fish and put me with groups of people that were almost professional fisherman made my quality of life so much better just being around him the way network like no one else but most of all you made me feel special and when he left he took that with him I will truly miss my friend and I cannot imagine the loss of Julie and Harrison Lee  it's been almost a month now and I realize that I will not be able to replace him but he was not supposed to ever be replaced I'm grateful for Julie and Harrison sharing their husband and father with me because I know I got lots of time with him that I am grateful for and cannot wait to see him again

I just learned of Sam's death today, needless to say I was shocked.

We were classmates at St. Anne and St. Thomas.  A handful of years ago I  was invited to have lunch with Sam and a group of classmates who met regularly. It was like being back in grade school again, fun that we as adults don't have near as often as we should.

I know he will be missed, my condolences to all the Lee family.

I was so sorry to hear of Sam's passing.  I saw the Chronicle obit and was deeply saddened by news of his passing.  I remember his 20-something energy and outgoingness from all those years ago.

To all the Lees:  Keep your chins up and think of all whom he touched.  His presence endures.

It's been years since I last saw Sam, but I will always have that memory to cherish-- of how he was when I first met him -- a frighten little boy who cried easily. Over time, he was transformed into a fun-loving kid and then into an adventuresome adult. My prayers are with my Aunt Hedy and the Lee family, and with Julie and Harrison. I will cling to the wonderful memories I have of the skinny runt of a kid I once knew who became an exceptional family man. God bless.

Most of my time spent with Sam was on the water fishing. He loved to catch fish or just try. Always in such a good mood, it was contagious. He was a good friend and will be deeply missed.

I was very sad to hear of Sam's passing.  When I received the news, my thoughts were of Sam and the times we'd talked.  He always had a smile on his face.  I will truly miss him

Sam was a good friend who was always full of life.  It's amazing how many years we've known each other since I first met Sam while working my way through college at Lee Printing and Office Supply back in the late 80s.

While our lives took us in different directions, every time I ran into Sam it was like we had barely been apart.  While I don't think I ever made it out on a fishing trip, Sam and I did share some cycling adventures.  
Without a doubt, Sam loved the great outdoors and I'm glad he shared that with his family.

I know that he touched so many people with his generous heart.  I'm happy to have known Sam and will cherish his memory.

We are so saddened by your loss. Sam was our client, our print vendor and had become a friend to a number of our staff. Working with him was always easy and a pleasure.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sam was my best friend from age six to about eleven.  I still remember the first day we met.  My family had just moved to the neighborhood in 1969; and for some reason, Sam was sitting cross-legged in the middle of my sidewalk.  I went over and started chatting with him.  He was never one to talk a lot, but we immediately became fast friends.  Back in those days, kids didn't stay indoors much, at least not the kids I knew.  But when Sam and I were indoors, we were either looking for a snack in his kitchen or mine ... or we were watching TV at his house in the sun room.  The Lees watched shows that my family didn't and that made it fun for me.  When we were somewhere around ten years old, Sam, Jesse Garza, Kerry Dean, and I ran away from home together.  Sam and Kerry had the good sense to turn around by the time we got to the middle of the "Foley's Field" which was a block from home.  But, Jesse and I were committed.  We kept going and made it all the way to "Hippie Hill" in Hermann Park before the police took us in.  Our reason for running away was that my sister, Daphne, had caught us playing with matches and was headed to tattle on us.  We were digging up balls of clay, sticking long weeds out one end of the ball and sticking "strike anywhere" matches in the other end.  We would take the the bombs (which was what we called them and which is absolutely what they were in our minds), we would throw them up in the air and when they landed on the pavement, they would strike and catch fire.  I don't know whether Jesse would have gotten into much trouble over the incident, and I'm certain that neither Sam nor Kerry would have been in much trouble, if any.  But, I would have most certainly been spanked for it and probably grounded.  Sam was the only one with any money to speak of.  Between Jesse and me, we had less than a dollar.  Sam always had money and on this day, I think he had a little more than $5.  When Sam turned back and took his bankroll with him, Jesse and I decided we would use what little money we had to buy a news paper and find a job ... maybe cutting lawns or something.  There was an empty lot next door to Sam's house and across the street from mine.  We spent countless hours in that lot playing kickball and baseball with other neighborhood friends.  Sam was my very best friend during some of the most formative years of my life.

My prayers for the Lee Family. I've been knowing Sam since I was about 7 years old. He was a great guy with such great sense of humor. When I was a teenager, Sam would cross the street to my parents house, and he would lay next to me and my sister. He would always give us a hug and a kiss on the forehead. He would also come over to see what my mom had to eat. LOL Sam was always hungry. He was always looking for those flour tortillas..Sam was not only a friend, Sam was part of my family... I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Harrison, I lost my dad 18 years ago. It was and still is the hardest thing I've gone through. Your mom and others love you very much and are there for you. Talk to them when you need to-talk to your friends as well. Talk about your dad often, share memories. It's so ok to be sad, mad, lonely, and everything else. Sam was a great guy who always had time for a friend.  I will always remember running into him near his print shop.  We'd stop and chat for 15 to 20 minutes and then go on our ways.  I wouldn't see him for several months until we'd cross paths again near his shop.  Each time we'd just catch up where we'd left off on our previous visit.  Sam had a giving and kind heart.  He loved his family and his friends and he will be missed by many.

My prayers go out to Julie, Harrison, his family and all Sam's friends who have been hurt and saddened by his passing.  I'm glad that I got to know you, Sam.

Was there anyone more fun than Sam? His twinkling bright eyes always carried the promise of fun, and he always delivered. Even though we are so sad, we are smiling because Sam was such a joy. We love you Sam, Julie and Harrison.
