

Samuel Lafayette Davidson, 92, went to be with The Lord on February 9, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He was a devoted husband, brother, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of God. He was born on January 18, 1932, in Russellville, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley White Davidson; his parents, Samuel Lafayette Davidson Sr, and Ruby Lee Davidson; his sister, Ann Lemmon; and brother, Jerry Davidson. He is survived by son, Dan Davidson and wife Kristine; daughter, Dayna Burnett and husband Bob; grandchildren, Lydia and Emily Davidson, Lauren Hixon and husband, Tom, and Carolyn Burnett; great-grandchildren: Charlotte (Lottie) and James Hixon, brother William and sisters-in-law Ann Davidson and Maureen Davidson, many nieces and nephews, and treasured friend, Louise Frowe.
Sam attended Lamar High School in Houston, Texas where he met his wife Shirley when he was fifteen. They dated through high school and married in 1952. Upon graduation, Sam entered the Air Force during the Korean “Police Action” and was honorably discharged in 1953. He began working at Schlumberger in 1953 and went on to have a 35-year career there. Sam attended night school at the University of Houston and earned a Degree in Physics while working in engineering at Schlumberger. After Schlumberger, he continued working at Compaq as a Quality Engineer and finally became the business manager at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church.
Sam was a guiding light for the family and had a nickname, “The family rescuer”. It was said that when peril threatened a family member, he would come out of nowhere to right the wrong. The family was everything to him and he loved the holiday parties, birthday and graduation celebrations, and weddings. His hobbies were painting and jewelry making and he loved dancing, travel, and being near the water.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on February 16 at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas with Reverend Scott Harbison officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
