Sandra was born in Houston, Texas on January 17, 1952, the third child to Joe and Mary Harris, Sr. She was their baby girl for over 11 years, and she held on to that status even after additional siblings were added. Sandra demonstrated her love for the Lord as a child and over the years, she continued her spiritual journey as a faithful and active church member.
After Sandra graduated from Kashmere High School in 1970, she advanced her education by earning a business degree from the University of Houston-Downtown. Over the course of her career, Sandra was a customer service supervisor at the Houston Lighting & Power Company; a project manager for Severn Trent; and a valued IT support team member at the City of Houston, where she retired.
Never one to seek the spotlight, Sandra enjoyed simple moments spent with loved ones. She made it her mission to excite family and friends with her holiday dishes and sweet treats. Nieces and nephews would fight over her pecan tarts, and no one should ever claim to bake a better pound cake. During her work travels, she would invite family members to accompany her. Trips to the snowy mountains of Oregon, touring New York City and Washington DC, taking a cruise from Florida’s Disney World to the Bahamas are among treasured memories.
Determined to succeed, Sandra was strong and determined. She sometimes worked more than one job to provide a wonderful life for herself and her only child, Lary. Sandra was also talented and expressed herself beautifully through her creativity. She designed family birthday calendars and was the family historian. A gifted seamstress, she crafted fashionable outfits for men, women, and children for all occasions. As a singer, she led songs in the church choir and occasionally blessed crowds as a guest soloist.
Relentless in her pursuit of what she thought was right, Sandra was never one to follow the crowd instead she carved her own unique path, living life on her own terms, unapologetically true to herself. Yet, always showed kindness to those she loved. Sandra was that mother, sister, aunt, and friend that never missed a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or graduation.
