Proverbs 31 reminds us that “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Those words beautifully reflect the life of Shirley, a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and friend whose life was defined by love, faith, and deep commitment to her family. When Shirley married Jerry in March of 1996, she blended her family with grace and intention, creating a home rooted in care, laughter, and unwavering support. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into nurturing each of them, always offering encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love.
Born on September 29, 1952, Shirley lived a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and a zest for life. She had a warm presence that made others feel welcomed and valued, and she carried herself with a grace that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Shirley had a keen analytical mind and was a natural leader in her professional life. A coworker remembered, “She was such a great team leader because she was able to listen, analyze, and advise. She treated everyone equally and with compassion.”Shirley approached life with the same thoughtfulness and determination she brought to her work. She loved the outdoors, hiking, and sailing, always encouraging those around her to embrace the adventure. One cherished memory from a sailing trip in the BVI recalls a long hike to a lookout point that took the entire day—an effort that left everyone laughing for years. Shirley’s adventurous spirit, warmth, and generosity made her a beloved friend and an inspiration to all who knew her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Burney Landers. She is survived by her children: Alison and Greg Evans and grandson, Griffin; Steven and Audrey Thorpe and granddaughters, Abbey, Addison, and Avery; and Emily Frank. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family.
