“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
A Time To Be Born….
On November 04, 1943 in Chappell Hill Texas, the late Spencer and Ollie Mae Newsome-Turner were blessed by the Almighty God with another son. They named him Spencer Lee Turner. He was a devoted son to his mother until her death. He really spoiled her and tried to do everything possible to make her happy during her lifetime. Being raised by strong believers in Christ, his mother and grandfather guided him in developing a yearning to learn more about the Lord. Spencer was a born-again believer and was baptized under the leadership Reverend K. C. Mason on July 15, 1955 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Chappell Hill, Texas.
A Time To Plant…..
Being a product of C. H. Hogan School at Chappell Hill, Spencer received his basic education starting at Pre-Primer to 10th grade and continued to Pickard High School, Brenham, Texas for 11th – 12th grade, and graduated in 1962. Spencer moved to Houston and attended Texas Southern University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences. While doing his studies at Texas Southern, he worked part-time at Braeswood Pharmacy. Spencer enjoyed many hobbies, but most of all he loved to fish, research family and church history, helping others and spreading the Word of God.
A Time To Embrace .....
Spencer was blessed to meet the love of his lifetime and marry Sylvia L. Banks Turner on July 19,1964. He loved and cherished her throughout their entire marriage of 56 years until his death. God added the blessing of three sons to this union, Spencer Jr., Terence, and Desmond.
A Time To Sow .....
Spencer Turner began his work as a Pharmaceutical intern at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. After he was employed at St. Luke’s, he became a proctor for Texas Southern University intern students, guiding young African American students in the career of Pharmacy. Spencer then moved up to senior Pharmacist and later progressed to Assistant Director of Pharmacy. He retired with 38 dedicated years of service. There he touched many lives, not only at work but wherever he saw the need to help someone with the knowledge God had blessed him with.
Deacon Spencer Turner was a member of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church for 58years. Deacon Spencer Turner also sowed his spiritual seeds as he walked with God. He emulated the scripture Matthew 28:19-20. Everywhere he went he was always a part of the church ministry and did all he could to keep the Kingdom of God moving forward. He was the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher of the Men’s Bible Class, Vice-President of Brotherhood Ministry, Baptist Training Union (BTU) Instructor, New Members Training Classes, and Souvenir Book Committee. Deacon Spencer Turner also worked with youth in the Lincoln District. He demonstrated leadership in the National and State BTU/Sunday School Congress. Both he and Sis. Due to the quality of his Biblical teaching, Ebenezer youth received many trophies and recognition. In 2013, he moved his membership to Lily Grove Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Terry K. Anderson. While attending Lily Grove he actively participated in Sunday School Ministry, Kingdom Men Academy, Reach Out and Touch Ministry, and supported the Children Church.
