On November 11, 1923, Stella Mae Reed was born to Alee Evans and Rhodial D. Reed in Haynesville, Louisiana. She was the only child to that union. She was reared in the loving family environment of her grandmother, Vinnie Evans, and her aunt, Mitti Bishop, along with cousins Essie Lee Bishop, Addie May Bishop, Roosevelt Bishop, and Cid Bishop. In 1952, Stella married ]. D. Williams. They enjoyed a loving marriage, and though no children were born to this union, she was a devoted wife to J. D. until his death in 1981. While ]. D. was in the military, they resided in New York City and later moved south to settle in Houston, Texas. Often J.D. as well as many of her relatives affectionately called Stella, "Jack". In 1979, Stella symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God. There she began a memorable and joyous time of her life. She often mentioned, "that studying the Bible made her a better person, wife, daughter, and friend". She valued the importance of serving Jehovah God with her spiritual family; therefore she was never missing from her congregation meetings. She enjoyed having an active share in the field ministry. She often mentioned the great time she had with the friends out in service and going to and Irom the meetings. In her later years she came to appreciate informal witnessing in the form of street work. It enabled her to sit in the car or on a bench and share Bible truths with persons on hand. She engaged in informal witnessing until her death. Her greatest joy was seeing her mother, Alee McGlothan, study God's Word, the Bible, and become a dedicated servant of Jehovah in her later years. Aunt Stella, as she was affectionately known, often thanked Jehovah for supplying her with children she felt were her own. She had many spiritual children in the congregation, who loved her dearly. She had a special one, her spiritual daughter, Regina Matlock Horton. Her nephew, Chester Williams, was her son. She would often mention thatJehovah did not forget her, by supplying her with one daughter and one son to love. Aunt Stella loved playing cards, watching Westerns, eating cookies, sitting on her sofa, and going to get fried fish with her friends, but her most enjoyable outing was going to get a small burger from Jack-in-the-Box. However, she had to have a milkshake to finish it all off. Stella Mae Williams leaves to cherish her memory: Lequency Burditte-Carr (hall-sister), Regina Matlock Horton (husband: Dexter), Willie Mae Williams (sister-in-law), Judy Brown (niece and husband: Willie), Bobbie Williams (sister-in-law), Virginia Glover (niece and husband: David), Chester Williams (nephew and wife: Mary), Patricia Williams (niece), and a host of cousins, friends, relatives, and spiritual brothers and sisters.
