A celebration of Life service will be conducted by Pastor Joe McArthur on January 3rd at 12:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale’s Chapel of Angels. In lieu of flowers, honorary donations to the Team Gleason Organization would be greatly appreciated at teamgleason.org.
Stephen was born on June 23, 1950 in Houston, TX to Adolph and Joan Alloy. A lifelong Christian, he was first baptized in the Episcopal Church as a young boy and recently reaffirmed his beliefs by accepting Christ again with his childhood friend, John Calo, as witness.
Stephen was a remarkable man with an unmistakable work ethic. Out of high school, he completed electrical trade school and started his career as an electrician where he joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers #716. He left the trade for a number of years to farm rice, milo, and soybeans with his dad, Adolph, and brother, Mark. He later left farming to return to his career as an electrician until he retired.
Stephen had many passions in life - he loved salt-water fishing, rooting for his Astros, and tinkering in his shop. However, one of his greatest joys was being a grandfather and watching his 7 grandkids grow up. He was the epitome of a supportive, proud grandfather. He loved listening to their stories and watching them play. His grandchildren will fondly remember his problem-solving skills and mechanical mind as he helped with countless school projects.
Stephen also fostered a close relationship with his three daughters. He was a loving father who would do anything for his girls. Whether it was an electrical issue, AC problem, vehicle trouble, or really anything else that could go wrong - anytime he was needed, his girls knew they could always count on him to help.
Stephen will be greatly missed by his wife of 54 years, Doris, who lovingly cared for him day and night throughout his two years with ALS; his children, Kim and her husband, Odis Caskey; Stephenie and her husband, Josh Gross; Jessica and her husband, Jimbob Forgy; his brother, Mark Alloy and sister, Terri McCormick as well as his grandchildren, Kadon, Keegan, Emma, Grant, Owen, Perri, and Quincy along with many nieces and nephews.
ALS is a devastating disease, and to say the last 2 years have been challenging is an understatement. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the family, friends, and neighbors who have spent countless hours helping us over these years - whether it was bringing food over, stopping by to visit and lift up our spirits, or help us take care of our house to allow Stephen to remain at home. We cannot express our gratitude in words and we are eternally grateful for all of you.
We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the members of Stephen’s medical care team who helped ease his suffering and made his days more comfortable. We are grateful for the care and support Stephen received from the Houston Methodist ALS Clinic and the Team Gleason Organization who provided countless ALS equipment. We are especially thankful to Misty Milbrodt and staff at Altus Hospice, whose compassion and care helped make Stephen’s final hours peaceful and as pain-free as possible. Our sincere appreciation also goes to Nurse Chris with IPR Home Health for his incredible support, guidance, and
dedication in helping our family navigate the many challenges of ALS. Finally, we are grateful to Susanna, his medical aide, whose warmth, gentle care, and wonderful sense of humor never failed to lift his spirits and bring a smile to his face.
