Steven was born and raised in Deer Park, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed the strong sense of loyalty and community that would define his life. He later made his home in Channelview, where he continued to live, serve, and love wholeheartedly.
A dedicated Volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician–Intermediate, Steven loved everything about firefighting. From responding to emergencies and saving lives to training and mentoring fellow volunteers, his work was more than a role — it was his passion. He approached every call with courage, skill, and unwavering dedication, bringing reassurance and calm to those in need.
Steven also loved life’s simple pleasures, especially enjoying seafood, with a particular fondness for sashimi. He had an infectious zest for life and could find joy in both small moments and big adventures.
Above all, Steven was a loving husband to his wife, Dawn Diggs; a devoted son to his father, Louis W. Diggs Jr., and the late Diana Macejewski; a cherished stepson of the late Alice Diggs; a proud grandson of the late Louis W. Diggs Sr., the late Norma Jean Diggs, the late Rosalie Macejewski, and the late Chester Macejewski; a proud brother to Ryan Diggs, Brittany Diggs, and Andrew Diggs; and a beloved stepfather to Zoey Lovell. He was also a devoted cat parent to Rylie and Mia, and fondly remembered his late cat, Princess. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, Steven loved to crack a joke and could always lighten the mood. His laughter was contagious, and his presence made even ordinary days brighter.
At just 44 years old, his passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him, as well as in the community he so faithfully served. Though his time here was far too short, the love he gave, the lives he saved, and the laughter he shared will continue to echo in the hearts of all who carry his memory forward.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dawn Diggs; his father, Louis W. Diggs Jr.; his brothers, Ryan Diggs and Andrew Diggs; his sister, Brittany Diggs; his stepdaughter, Zoey Lovell; his cats, Rylie and Mia; and many extended family members, friends, and fellow first responders who will forever cherish his memory.
It is time for Steven to go home. He fought a good fight and will be truly missed. He left way too soon. There is a big hole in our hearts from his loss, but the love, laughter, courage, and passion for firefighting he shared — along with his joy for life and love of sashimi — will live on forever.
