Sue Ann Croskery passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 7, 2022, lovingly surrounded by her two children in Houston, Texas. Sue was born on March 31, 1938 to Alma and Alfred Wittenbach in Belding, Michigan.
Sue is survived by her children, Michele Hodgson and husband Brett of Redmond, Oregon, and David Croskery and wife Kris of Houston, TX. She was a proud grandmother to Kendra Hodgson of Bend, Oregon, Caroline Alexander and husband Chase of Dallas, TX, and Collin Croskery of Dallas, TX. She was also blessed to become a great-grandmother to Camden Miranda-Croskery (age 4) and Noelle Alexander (age 4 months).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mike Croskery, her parents, and her two older brothers, Kenneth and Calvin.
Sue graduated from Belding High School as the salutatorian and went on to receive her nursing degree at Blodgett Hospital School of Nursing. She married her husband Mike and began working at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. Sue supported Mike while he pursued a degree in engineering at the University of Michigan.
She continued working as an RN throughout her many years of marriage to Mike, only pausing to become a stay-at-home mom and avid bridge player when the family lived in Europe for seven years. Her love for nursing was only exceeded by her love for her family.
In 1994, Sue’s husband retired and they put down roots in Austin, TX. Sue continued to work and play bridge while Mike enjoyed days spent on the golf course. In addition, Sue and her husband loved maintaining a lush garden and traveling to visit friends and family. Their grandchildren have many fond memories of playing in their expansive backyard and watching “The Sound of Music” in their game room.
Sue retired from nursing after a series of strokes. Sue and her husband eventually returned to Houston where they had lived previously to be closer to David and his family while Mike received cancer treatment. Their grandchildren enjoyed spending time with them eating Swiss crepes and watching sports, especially the Wolverines. They rejoined the University Baptist Church and appreciated the spiritual guidance and support of this community.
While we grieve the loss of a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, we are grateful for the many years with Sue and that she is at peace now, healed, and able to finally rejoin her beloved husband.
Sue’s life will be celebrated this summer in Michigan, where much of her extended family still resides. Her family looks forward to spending many summers together in Traverse City, Michigan, remembering her in each card game played and every sunrise spent sipping coffee.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.heightsfuneralhome.com for the Croskery family.
