Sylvia Valencia, 76, of Houston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, June 11th at Memorial Herman hospital. Sylvia was a devoted daughter and sister. Sylvia will be missed deeply by all her family and those who knew and loved her.
Sylvia was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on December 20th, 1947 and was the second oldest of 7 siblings. She graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and soon started her career at The Daily Court Review. She worked there for all of her career and retired early in life. Sylvia lived her life focused on her family and continued to live in her childhood home throughout her life. Sylvia had a love of reading. From a young age, she was always reading a book and it was part of her daily life. She also enjoyed sci-fi movies and watching her favorite TV shows. For most of her life, her Saturday routine was going to the movie theatre and then going out to eat afterwards. Her older sister Irma was mostly always by her side on these days.
Sylvia was also a devout Catholic and had big faith. She attended St. Patrick Catholic church until her knee surgery no longer allowed her to attend in person. Sylvia’s legacy is one that teaches us to live life on our own terms because that is exactly as she lived her life. It was a quiet life of solitude at times, but if you knew Sylvia, you knew she was the happiest in her room reading her books, watching TV, and scrolling on her IPAD.
Sylvia will be missed, as she was a staple for all us as we visited our childhood home. Nothing will ever be the same again and it leaves us with sorrow. But knowing that she now with her other sisters and parents along with extended family, gives us comfort as we know that she now happiest of all!
Sylvia is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Juan and Tillie Valencia, Ruben and Janet Valencia, Fred and Meme Valencia, and her sister Claudia Valencia Horn. Along with so many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
