

Tanya Marie Thompson of Houston, Texas was born on August 5, 1962 to Charles Melvin and Fannie Jo Thompson. She attended public school in the Houston Independent School District, where she was also employed until she retired in 2015.
Tanya confessed Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at an early age at Second Baptist Church and never hesitated to share testimonies of His grace and mercy. She was an active member of The Community of Faith Church that she loved deeply. She was called home to eternal rest on Friday, January 14, 2022.
Tanya touched the lives of everyone she met in a profound way. She was loving, helpful and kind and cared about everyone she met.
Tanya had a passion for teaching, writing, reading, and praising God. She was, at her soul, an educator. She was a Language Arts Teacher, Department Chair, Literacy Coach, Interventionist and private tutor. In her last job, she was a Scopist, self-contractor for A. Steele Reporting. She was an inspiration to countless numbers of children and shared her love for the craft of teaching to other educators as well. She was a member of many educational organizations, recipient of many awards and achievements. She was on the Executive Board of HAABE- Houston Area Association for Bilingual Education where she most recently served as Parliamentarian, she was also a member of the following organizations Texas Association for Bilingual Education, Houston Area Alliance of Black School Educators, Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, National Alliance of Black School Educators, Texas Council of Women School Executives. She was Teacher of the Year for HAABSE and English as a Second Language Teacher of the Year for HAABE. In addition to Teacher of the Year Awards, Tanya was a recipient of The Golden Apple Award. Tanya was a book and journal reviewer and presenter at various educational conferences. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Tanya was preceded in death by her parents, Fannie Jo Thompson, and Charles Thompson Sr., brother, Terran Thompson, sister Sharon Malone Gaines, cousin Sonseria Love, and her Great Aunt, Eula Mae Williams.
Tanya leaves to cherish her memories: siblings, Barron Malone, Dinah Harris, Gregory Thompson, (Mary Kay), Dawn Thompson, Ramona Aghahowa (Roland), and Charles Thompson, Jr., Winfred Thompson (Step-mother), Aunt Pearl Thompson Love, Uncle Everett Lee (Richard) Thompson, Aunt Joyce Aubrey, cousins Courtney Love, Kimberli Paley Scott, Goddaughter, Simone Pradia; close friends, Sherry and Joy Burton, Jennifer Butcher, Wendolyn Williams, Cari Barnes, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
