

A lifelong Lutheran, she was baptized at Trinity Lutheran, and confirmed at Messiah Lutheran, Houston. Thelma attended Trinity and Messiah Lutheran schools, George Washington Jr. High and Sam Houston Sr. High school. Thelma met Chester Janke at Messiah and they married in 1952. They later became members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Thelma spent many years keeping customers happy as a sales associate at Bilaos, Battlesteins, and Frost Brothers.
Thelma was predeceased by parents Johanna and Alvin T. Froehlich Sr., brother Harold N. Froehlich (Helen), and sisters Gladys Kahanek (Leslie), and Opal Scott, brothers-in-law Phillip Lem, and Gene Milton, and mother and father-in-law Albert and Sarah Janke. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Chester A. Janke, sisters and brothers Josephine Lem, Alva Lee Nelson, Alvin T. Froehlich, Jr. (Nora Lee), Shirley Milton, Gilbert L. Froehlich (Bobbie Jean), many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Family and friends will gather at a visitation on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Waltrip Funeral Directors 1415 Campbell Road in Houston. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1353 Witte Road, Houston, TX 77055. A private interment will follow at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
If desired, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
