

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Verlee Taylor was born on March 21, 1934 in Dayton, Texas. Verlee was the ninth child of twelve children born to the late Gabriel and Lorena Hebert. She was educated in the Dayton Independent School District. She graduated from Colbert High School in Dayton, Texas. After graduation she moved to Houston to attend Franklin Beauty College. After receiving her Cosmetology License she worked as a stylist for one year. Verlee developed a love for fashion and pursued a career as a merchandise coordinator for Neiman Marcus where she worked for 36 years. After moving to Houston, Verlee joined Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where she met the love of her life, Albert Lee Taylor. On March 19, 1954 she married Albert Lee Taylor. To this union two daughters and three sons were born. She loved her church family, especially her Pastor. She began working an early age in the youth department under the leadership of Katie Sylvester around 1946. She later became matron of the youth department and served as a consultant to the later youth leaders. Other ministries she participated in were Sunday School Teacher, Alumni Choir, Sr. Choir, Deaconess , Women's Ministry and Greeters. Verlee participated in other activities outside of church. She was along standing member of Esther Chapter 250, O.E.S; from 1988 Worthy Matron, a member of My Sisters and Me, and Secret Pal. In 1959, the family moved to Acres Homes. Her home was always open to anyone who needed a meal or a place to live. She loved family and everybody was considered kin folk. Verlee was the Matriarch for the Hebert Family. Her memory will live on. She was preceded in death by one son Albert Lee Jr., three sisters and five brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory: Husband of 60 years, Albert Lee Sr.; two daughters, Jacqueline Chatman (Charles) and Sandra K. Taylor; two sons, Michael and Kenneth Ray Taylor (Michelle); four grandchildren: Charles R. and Anfernee Chatman, Kellie Passmore (Brian) and Mirya Franklin; five great grandchildren: Kameron, Kelis, Kayden, Taurus Jr. and D'Neal; one sister Hilda Faye Taylor' two brothers, Gabriel (Gabe) and Venis (Fat) Hebert; one brother-in-law, James E. Taylor and one sister-in-law, Emma Woods (Joe); one godchild, Michelle Smith and two god grandchildren Latoya Buckner and Kyndria Martin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and her spiritual sister/best bud throughout life Dorothy M. Smith.
