Verna Ann Wagner, 89 of Houston Texas, was born on September 2, 1930 in Willis Texas to John and Mary Paluka Swiech, and went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.
Verna was a sweet, patient and loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother who loved to cook and bake; canning pickles and preserves. She had a green thumb and could grow just about any vegetable or flower that the soil would allow her to. She loved outdoors and when she wasn’t fishing or hunting with her husband and family, she was at home on the back porch drinking coffee with her husband and birddog. She was an eager right-hand mechanic when her husband would fix things around the house and was always up for the task or project and learned quickly. She was a talented florist and seamstress; making her children’s clothes, Anton’s jumpsuits, along with Karen’s barbies’ clothes, and taught the grandchildren how to sew; making slippers, pillows and dolls. As a baker, she made cookies and cakes for holidays and special occasions, and always baked a homemade cake to celebrate birthdays.
Verna was a member of the Harvest Years Altar Society at Assumption Catholic Church and involved with many of the different functions at the church.
She is survived by her husband of 68 ½ years, Anton Wagner, married on June 28, 1951; her children, son Cary Wagner and his wife, Janis; daughter Karen Dempsey Goza and husband, Robert, and son-in-law Brian Dempsey and wife Darlene; grandchildren, Derek Wagner and wife, Chrissy; Steven Wagner; Kimberly Bautista and husband, Adam; Kendall Dempsey, Kelsey Ryland and husband, Larry, and Katelyn Dempsey; great-grandchildren, Alexis Wagner, Benjamin Wagner, Caden Bautista, Blayklee Bautista, Kaylee Ryland and Kennedy Bautista; along with Her sister, Margaret Strelec and sisters-in-law, Christine Swiech and Dorothy Swiech.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude for “Aunt Dorothy,” for taking part in precious memories and for her love, constant encouragement through calls, cards, and letters, and for her endless devotion to the family, which the family is forever grateful for. Verna is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Swiech; Five brothers, Felix, Joe, Leon, Anthony and Kie Swiech and sister, Rosalie Scholwinski.
The family would like to also give a special thank you to Vitas Hospice and Loving Care Cottages for their loving and diligent care of Verna while in their care.
