

Walter Lewis, Jr. affectionately known as “Duke, Big Lewis & Chief” was born to Walter Lewis, Sr. and Lila Carr-Lewis on February 19, 1938, in Shepherd, Texas. He was baptized at a early age. Walter graduated from Dixon High School in Shepherd, Texas. He grew up surrounded by a community that cherished faith, fellowship and hard workers.
Walter met and married the love of his life Jewel Holcomb and to that union three children were born. Walter began his career with Metro until his retirement. Later in life he met and married Doris Lewis until the Lord called her home.
Walter unwavering faith remained a source of strength and comfort until his final days, and inspiring those around him. He loved making people laugh with his funny jokes, playing dominoes, hunting, cooking and just being around his family and friends.
On December 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m., Walter peacefully answered the heavenly call to rest. He is now reunited with his love ones, his parents: Walter and Lila Lewis, his wives: Jewel Holcomb Lewis and Doris Lewis, siblings: Pricella Peters, Theressia Lewis, George Curtis Lewis, James Gibson, Johlynn Lewis, Johnny Peters and Clarence Lewis and his grandson; Damarius Lowery.
Walter memories will be forever cherished by his family. Including his children; Roland, Stan Lewis, Sr. and LaShundra Lewis-Jenkins (Michael), his siblings; Larry Lewis (Melvina), Lonzo Lewis and Cherry Steptoe (RD), grandchildren; Brandi James, Stan Lewis,II, Tai’Kari Lewis, Roland Lewis Jr., Rolonda Lewis Malik Jenkins, Miles Jenkins, and Nicholas Lewis, great-grandchilden; Kimorah Richards and London Lewis. A host of nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends he loved dearly.
Walter’s life was a true testament to his Faith, Strength and boundless capacity for love. His legacy will live on through his loved ones..
