

Mae (Washington) Turnley in Glenmora, Louisiana, on February 10, 1938. The family later moved to Oakdale, Louisiana, where Walter would graduate from Allen High School. Following graduation, Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1956.
While in the USAF, Walter was a military policeman. After receiving a medical discharge from the Air Force, Walter moved to Sacramento, California, where he lived until 2005. In 2005 Walter moved to Houston, Texas, where he lived with his brother, Howard, until he was placed in a nursing home.
Walter was baptized and an active member of Starlight Baptist Church in Oakdale, Louisiana. He was active in Sunday school and BYPU. Walter loved baseball and basketball. He was very creative and a good artist. Walter painted several pictures that still hang in the nursing home.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters. Martha Ann Turnley and Elsie Turnley-Holland. He leaves three sisters: Myrtle Lee Rainey, Shirley Ann Milton of Oakdale, LA and Annie Mae Taylor of San Antonio, TX; two brothers: Howard Turnley of Houston, TX and Curtis Turnley of Oakdale, Louisiana. In addition, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
