My sincere condolences to the Latham Family.  I first met and worked with Mr Latham at ExxonMobil back in 2004 until his departure to Nigeria.  The Last time I heard from Mr Latham was through an email back in 2010 that he sent from Nigeria to some of us here at ExxonMobil stating that he was coming for a visit; however, I haven't seen nor heard from him since and  unfortunately, I just now learned of his passing after talking to a colleague of mine. Dear Latham Family,

You have my heartfelt condolences on the loss of a dear husband, father, brother, uncle and my best friend, Warren Latham.  

God broke the mold when he created Warren, for he was truly a special and unique man.  He was a loving husband and father and his family and friends meant the world to him.  I had the honor of meeting Warren in Houston over 18 years ago and surprisingly; he always made a special effort to keep in touch via a post card or email regardless of whether he was in the U.S. or travelling abroad.  Likewise, travel played an important role in Warren’s life and it was one of his special loves that he enjoyed as well as to extend a special invitation to everyone to travel with him to see the world, to meet an array of people, to learn different cultures, to explore different foods, but most importantly; to understand and to respect mankind. 
 
I shared with Warren that I had never traveled outside the Unites States.  So, Warren extended me an invitation to accompany him and his loving family and friends to attend the Athens 2004 Olympics.  To see Paris, Italy and Greece was far most the best experience of my life.  His beautiful wife Cynthia, son Chris and friends were a delight and wonderful joy to have shared my first travel experience abroad with and I will always be thankful to them all. 
 
Warren was the epidemy of God’s love, grace, class and human decency in which he’d bestowed upon everyone he meant.  His circle of friends became your friends and his family became your family.  He was a giving and caring man and he will be truly missed.  Again, God broke the mold when he created Warren, there will never be another Warren Henry Latham.

My heartfelt condolences are extended to the Latham family.  We met in Port Harcourt in 2009 and became fast friends.  I last saw him in Houston this past September, when we played a round of golf.  We swapped stories and had an enjoyable afternoon.  So much has been said of Warren, all of it true.  The gladness I feel from knowing him far outweighs the sadness of knowing that he is gone.

I am still in deep shock over the sudden departure of a dear friend, Warren was a pleasant person to be with, he his a father figure and a mentor.

I happened to work with Warren 2006 to 2009 in Exxonmobil in Port Harcourt, before i left i still remember is fatherly advise and may God bless him as he rest in the hands of our lord.

I had the unique opportunity of meeting Warren several years ago while working in Houston, TX.  We quickly became friends.  I learned right away that he was the type of person who  they say ‘has never met  a stranger. He  touched the lives of so many people. No matter where he was in the world he always kept in touch …be it post card, newspaper article,  book or just simple hotel brochure. To me,  it was his way of giving you the opportunity to experience the world with him. He will be truly missed.

Warren was a giant among friends, his love and wisdom spread across the globe.  He was a good friend of mine since we first met in Japan in the early 1980's and continued this friendship until the very end.  He will be missed here, but I am sure he will continue to make many more good friends where he is now...

So sorry to hear of Warren's passing.  Warren was invaluable resource during his employment with Moody International.  He will certainly be missed.

When I heard about cousin Warren's passing it really hurt my heart. I see the outpouring of love and support that he and the family has recieved and it truley reminds me how much of an impact that he had not only on my life, but the lives of countless others. No one is perfect and without fault, but we can learn alot from this man about how to be a geniune good human being. I will be unable to attend his ceremony but I feel that can be attributed to "Uncle Scrap's" kindness and his love of family. It was his belief in me even when I wasn't so sure of myself that gave me the courage and belief to do something different. I will do my best to live up to his fine example. But as you all may know and will witness, that man didn't leave without touching alot of people, so I feel very to know him. I had the opportunity to know Warren for a short spell of six months while working on Mobil's EPC-4B Project in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His charming personality, ever willing to help nature and ocean of knowledge captivated me to the extent that when he was leaving Port Harcourt, we were happy to offer him a job in our Company, SACL. He was gracious enough to accept, saying may be he will come back one day and work with us again in Port Harcourt. Unfortunately God had other ideas. I remember when I first met Uncle Scrappy Thanksgiving 2004, and that was what he told me to call him when I we met. He never made me feel out of place or a visitor. He never made anyone feel like a visitor, everyone was welcomed in his home. I loved him like he was my very own uncle. He will forever be missed and his jokes will continue to be told. I am very saddened by the news of your father's passing. You will undoubtedly receive countless emails all testifying to your father's greatness but I can't avoid adding to the accolades. We were work colleagues but, above all, very good friends. 

Your father was a great man, and I don't say that lightly. He was great in the classical sense - he changed people's lives. No one who knew him came away from the friendship as a lesser person. To his co-workers, he was a great colleague and mentor, always ready to help, teach, show the way, impart his knowledge and experience (which was vast.) To his friends (your Dad didn't have mere acquaintances), he was a force for transformation. I have first hand knowledge of people whose lives he changed by either facilitating their emigration to the US, by providing funds for scholarships, by donating golf clubs, and by interceding with others to open doors or make life's path a bit less hard to travel. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of people walking the face of the earth today whose lot in life is immeasurably improved because they had the good fortune to cross paths with your father. 

Such was the measure of his character that even when he fell out with anyone, they never remained cross at each other for any appreciable measure of time, me included. I remember on more than one occasion flaring up at him in some meeting and later laughing my head off at some anecdote of his at lunch or drinks later that day, wondering how he was able to never stay angry at all. 

From him I learned the power of conviction and the value of staying true to one's beliefs. It didn't matter how powerful you were, from Warren you always got what he believed and thought was right. He was not one to tailor his message to the audience for the sake of currying favor or appealing to their acceptance. That required a lot of courage, more than I can ever hope to match. For that and so much more he was highly respected everywhere. 

I could go on for hours literally, but I would only be adding to the laurels that others are surely already penning to his legacy. My aim is just to, in whatever small measure possible, ease the immense sense of loss and the pain you must all feel at this time by letting you know that Warren's time on earth was not in vain. Whatever his failings, he more than made up for with his immense gifts and his legacy of caring, giving and for making a mountainous difference in the lives of those of us fortunate enough to have been graced with his friendship.

Thanks for letting me know. Ephrem had informed me via email two days ago and it was very kind of him to do so.

I am in Sydney and apologise for not being able to attend, due to work commitments.  Nevertheless, I would like you to know that I have always treasured my relationship with Warren.  He has always been a gentleman, thoughtful, generous and kind. I feel honored for having known him.

I remember vividly my visit to your home in Plano in 2000 (before that in Trenton) and your parents' visit to Sydney with Ephrem and others later for the Olympics. In Plano, you were extremely helpful to me and I have truly enjoyed engaging with you, Lesley and your parents.

I know I have not been visiting often at all but I do often think of Warren, Cynthia, you and Lesley.  I hope to be able to keep in touch with your wonderful family.  Congratulations to you and Lesley for your achievements so far. I am so impressed.

You mean Warren is dead? how, was he ill, no wonderder I was in Houston for one month last year september through
October, emailed him twice without response, called his number with no response. I assummed he traveled to China as he had earlier proposed before leaving Lagos, Nigeria. My wife and I last had a breakfast with him in Paris, France on our way to Germany last summer of 2009.
 
Warren was a good man, who loved to see happiness flow in people of all races, he go out of his way to create smile on people he work with and the environment he lives. 
 
He tells you the truth of how situation is, what and how it will be in a short and long term and how he could be of help.. 
 
Being with Warren, is like being with your biological father. He "yes" is as good and honourable as a pay cheque of a bank note. 
He will be grately remembered by many of us whom he mentored during his leadership engineering expart work in Nigerian ExxonMobil Projects department. He was a good man in all ways.

I heard from Rene Costales about Warren's passing.  Please accept my deepest condolences and know that you are all in my prayers during this difficult period. We were so shocked to hear the news of your father's passing. He will be greatly  missed by all of us. It is with great sorrow that I learned of  the passing of our Dear Brother, Warren Latham.
My name is Malcolm W. Adams. I am the former CBS News and CNN Producer/Correspondent in the Tokyo Bureau. I first met Warren when he was assigned to work in Japan many years ago. He was a prominent member of the Japan African-American community and was loved and admired by everyone with whom he came in contact. He will be sorely missed. We all should be grateful for the exemplary life that he lived and the positive impact he had on all who knew him.  He was a real cool Brother and an admirable Human Being who lived an enviable life. Professional, Intelligent, businesslike, fun loving, sophisticated, worldly, honest and congenial....these are some of the adjectives that instantly come to mind when I think of him. He was a special and unique character in our "Japan Fairytale" who appeared on the stage at an exciting time in our history. He will long be remembered.

I am sadden by the news on your father's demise. I would have like to attend his memorial services but regret to advise that I have been transferred back to Malaysia.

Warren, you should be proud of your father. He was one of the first few people that I worked with when I was transferred to Houston 8 years ago. He is a kind and friendly man, ever willing to help me and as I was in a foreign land that meant a lot to me. During the later part of my 8 year stay in Houston, I developed some retina issues, again your father was there to recommend his doctor friend to me. His show of concern really touched me. He was a good buddy!

I received the news about the passing away of your dad this morning. I am really sad to hear this.

I worked with your dad when both of us were at Mobil in Princetoon, NJ and in Singapore on the Aromatics project.
He was a bright man and always showed high spirit. His smiles and friendship will be missed.
He always said that golf was his game and that we would play in Spore again. He would then "whup me". His expressions are priceless.
 
Wonderful person he was and I am glad to have met him.
He was my friend and I will remember him for always.

First of all my thoughts and prayers go to your mum, your sister, brothers and the rest of the family. My name is Connie Osborne. I may be wrong, but I believe we met when you came to China with your family for the Beijing Olympics. I first met your dad 29 years ago....How time flies. Regardless of wherever I moved to, with my job and or wherever he moved to, with his job, we kept in touch. Your dad was like that with all his friends. He was a lovely, kind, warm hearted and generous man. Those of us who were lucky to be a part of his world are today better people for having known him. He will be dearly missed. May his soul rest in peace and all the best with the memorial services. It will not be possible for me to attend but my heart will be with your mum and everyone....God bless you and thank you for writing to us.

I was shocked to hear that Warren was no longer amongst us.  He was one of the most special men I have ever known and was proud to have called him my friend.  He entered my life in Tokyo, Japan in late 1980 and we have stayed in touch ever since.  Warren was funny, kind, generous, gracious, welcoming, caring, a great communicator and conduit, a brilliant chemical engineer, a great husband, Dad, and friend who loved and cared about so many people . . . all over the world and made time for each. It did not matter your nationality or ethnic origin -- all were embraced and celebrated.  I will never forget my 26th birthday party international Warren orchestrated at his house in Tokyo. He was so special, will never be replaced, but long remembered . . . . until we meet again.  Rest in peace, my brother, and I will see your smile and hear your laugh in the countless memories shared with you over the decades.  You made my life richer, I learned from you {including how to keep a marriage from going south by setting proper priorities}, had many great times and conversations.  You will be so missed.  Know you are with the Lord and job well done!!!!  Your family will stay in our thoughts and prayers.  We know just how much you loved them.

I am left with a heavy heart upon learning of Warren's passing; perhaps that is appropriate as his friendship gave life such buoyancy.  

My wife Sheri, and I met Warren nearly half a life time ago, while we were posted to Camp Zama, Japan.   He, was the perpetual constructor of networks of friendships, not to mention also of great times, either through his graciousness and hospitality at a dinner party or cranking up Kool and the Gang as the call to dance. His apartment in Shibuya was its own social network. 

 I shouldn't neglect his passion for a ball, well-struck ball off a tee, or the pleasure he took in the splendor of nature even when carting along a green,   

During that time he beamed with happiness after meeting Cynthia, even more on the occasion of the birth of, or for that matter, any opportunity to discuss any of his children or their accomplishments.

The memories become overwhelming.

To Cynthia and the family, our hearts and prayers are with you.  The whole world has lost a friend.

It is with profound sadness I express my deepest condolences to the Latham family for the passing away of our beloved friend, Warren.  I had the pleasure of working with and being Warren's friend between 2003 and 2009 in Houston and Nigeria.  He was smart, funny, full of life and he always went out of his way to help others.  He talked about his family with great pride and shared the many adventures he experienced throughout his travels. I pray for his soul to rest peacefully in God's grace and to give his family strength during this difficult time.
