He was born in his family home near Cego in Falls County, Texas, in 1941 to Otto (Shay) and Corine (Niesen) Miller. He played basketball at Chilton High School in Chilton, Texas and was an active member of the FFA, winning several ribbons and accolades, including the Lone Star Farmer award. He graduated Salutatorian of his high school class.
Wilbur then went on to attend Sam Houston State University studying drafting, where he met the love of his life, Martha Guillory, on a blind date. The two were married in 1962 and began building a life together in Houston, Texas, where they were blessed with three children, Douglas, Lisa and Lee.
Wilbur began his career as a draftsman for HL&P and went on to teach drafting at South Houston High School. Once the children were grown, he went into business for himself, operating AAA Carports and Miller Rental Properties until he retired in 2006.
Wilbur was an avid fisherman and an even more enthusiastic sports fan of his home teams, the Houston Astros and the Houston Texans. He loved to pass the time watching these teams battle it out and was a huge armchair cheerleader – or coach, whichever was warranted at the time.
We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, dad, and PawPaw and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Otto (Shay) and Corine Miller, and his granddaughter, Austyn Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha; his children, Doug Miller, Lisa Miller Diaz, and Lee Miller and wife Milissa; two grandsons, Cameron Diaz and wife Katie, and Corey Diaz and wife Fayth; one granddaughter, Lexee Miller; one great-grandson, Theodore Diaz; his sister, Helen Miller; and many cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be son Doug Miller, and family friends Rick Dutton, Chris Jones, Jeff MacGorman, Victor Ochoa, and Troy Stalcup.
The family would like to thank The Villas of SCR at Cinco Ranch for the care and compassion they showed Wilbur in his final days.
