In the small county town of Brenham, Texas, a baby girl was born September 6, 1926 to William and Sophia Randle. She was the younger of two sisters. They named her Willie Mae Randle. Years later Willie Mae parents decided to move to Houston, Texas where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1944. After high school she began her adult life and met and married Lee D. Brooks on July 12, 1947. The Lord blessed this union with two children; a son and daughter, Donald and Wanda. Lee Brooks was called from labor to reward on January 20, 1990. They were married for 43 years. Willie Mae was always a woman of class and culture, with that gift she enrolled in Franklin Beauty School to study Cosmetology and became a licensed “beautician “ for 40 years. She was a successful business owner in the “First Ward” addition in Houston. Willie Mae confessed Christ as her Savior at an early age. She and her husband united with Hill Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. R.L. Archield, Sr. She served diligently in the Spiritual Chorus and was always willing to give the Lord her best in service. As the First Ward addition grew, Hill Zion Baptist Church relocated. However, Willie Mae and her husband remained in the area and united with New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. M. M. Pierson. As time went on Willie Mae and her husband moved from First Ward and she became a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. G.G. Grant. She was a faithful member and served on the Hospitality Committee where she enjoyed helping others until her health began to fail. Willie Mae is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and granddaughter. She was known by a host of family and friends as MaDear. Her memories will forever be cherished by her children, Donald Brooks (Doris), Wanda Wheatfall; five grandchildren, Derrick Brooks (Lynette), Choicee Brooks, Csion Wheatfall, Ocee Wheatfall, LaGloria Wheatfall, Brechee’ Hunt (Dayvian); two great grandchildren, Zyrai Thomas, Derrick Brooks II; and a host of other relatives and friends.
