Zeny,
With your passing it has affected my life tremendously. I view the world differently, before I always felt it was black or white and everything was either right or wrong. But now I feel many gray areas, the many spaces in between. I think of you often and appreciate my relationship with my own parents so much more and now I look to the future of your grandchildren. Joanne and I will make every effort to make sure they never forget you. I will tell them how much you loved them and of course how you spoiled them. I will remind them, that when they were infants, how you moved in and lived with us to help take care of them, despite being scared of the noises my house made at night. How you said, if I hear voices, I am leaving.
Madeline was telling us one of her earliest memories of you. It was the time we were at the Cheesecake Factory, the whole family was there, laughing and having fun. Madeline turned to me at the age of 6 and she said, I like this family, they are so much fun. It was one of my favorites memories and not because you paid for my food, (as usual).
I often think of you as an angel. There is a video that Joseph took of you, right before the big surgery. You are coloring and there is a beautiful light surrounding you. You seemed so calm and peaceful.
I want to promise you that I will continue to take care of my health and especially the health of your grandchildren. I will continue to take care of JoAnne. You would be so proud of her, she is just like you, a wonderful and caring mom. I know that through her actions the boys will remember your ways. Of course my favorite is .Is the garage closed? 
2016 have been a roller coaster of a year for our family starting with the Great Loss of my mother-in-law, Zeny. I find it truly bizarre how many people have passed away this year. From Abe Vigoda to Muhammad Ali.   Also Prince, David Bowie, George Michael, Alan Thicke, John Glenn, Florence Henderson, Arnold Palmer, Carrie Fisher which was insanely followed by her mother the next day, Debbie Reynolds, and of course our Beloved Zeny.  I was asked to give the Eulogy at the wake which was one of the Greatest Honors of my life and it was also one of the hardest things I've ever had to do..I would like to share the eulogy that I gave that day.

I want to say thank you to everyone for coming to help us celebrate the life of Zeny Naguit. Thank you for coming out and showing your love and support for the family. Most of all, thank you for your prayers. If you think about it, prayers are the biggest favor we can do for each other. Usually we pray for ourselves or for forgiveness but in the act of praying to the Lord Almighty and asking for help for one another is the greatest gift we can give.
 Zeny is many things to all of us. She was a friend, an Ate, a Tita, a wife, a mother.. She was our Lola. and she made the best Lumpia ever!! The best Lumpia Period!!! Now I know there are some Tita's and Aunties out there and they are sayingwhat's wrong with my Lumpia I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your Filipino taquito's.  I don't want to get beat up afterwards, but we all know, she was a fabulous - she was a Great cook - she was a Great mother.
She came to the U.S. in 1985, landing in San Francisco after a 27 hour flight, with three children, one of which was her 1 year old son. She worked for the Houston Police Department for 23 years retiring as Billing Accounts Manager. We all know stories about Lola Zeny; that she played the lotto and she won a lot of times including as much as $2500, which she used for her parents flight to America. She loved her pick three, and one time she won $500 at the dog track on Mother's Day Amazing!  We all know the famous story about Zeny and Joseph going off to Disneyland by themselves. We know that she was deeply involved with the church doing Couples for Christ and the religious pilgrimages to help the church in different parts of Europe. She loved God, she loved her children, and she loved to spoil her grandchildren. We all know the funny story that Zeny told everyone about how with her short miniskirt and her sexy legs she lured Joe away from the priesthood but do any of you know how Zeny and Joe actually met? 
They both were working at a large company called the Monja Group of Companies, there she was an E.A. for the Vice President for one group and Joe was a Human Resource clerk, which involved in the process of hiring new employees. Now Joe's boss had been searching for a good woman bowler, so then Zeny comes along and Joe administers the IQ test and a typing test and she did very well. So they all sit down to the interview and the first thing they ask her Are you a good bowler? Well thank goodness she was a good bowler, in fact if you think about it, if Zeny was a bad bowler, none of us would be here. 
She was many things to each of us. She is special to all of us. In fact my dad who is currently in Veracruz Mexico and could not be here today. He called Joanne and I to offer his condolences to the Naguit family from the Musule family. My dad was a Master Sergeant in the Mexican Army so he comes off as tough and rough.  Many of you know that he's a man of few words, he really doesn't talk a lot. At his own mother's funeral he did not cry, but when he called to offer his condolences, he had numerous nice things to say about Zeny and the whole time you could hear that he was fighting back the tears Why?... Because Zeny was so special. She is so dear to us. She is so special to all of us, she leaves a big hole in our hearts. She will be immensely missed, she was taken too soon.
Usually in the book of Revelations, they have many scary Proverbs. The stories I found one that I would like to share with you, that's not so scary:  In the path of the righteous is life and in its pathway there is no death, for Christ will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more, neither shall morning, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things have passed awayso no more needles, no more surgeries, no more pain.
 I would like for everyone to come up here and say a few words. Please share a story, share a simple thought, you can talk less than a minute, you can talk for over an hour. Wait! Wait! No No don't talk for over an hour, I'm hungry, so you only have five minutes. 
I've only been to five funerals and at each of them I wanted to come up here and say a few words but I've been too scared, too nervous, too worried that I would start crying uncontrollably. But this is the right place to cry, this is the right place to express our sadness, to express our love for her. So everyone please come up here.
Dear God Almighty Father, we pray to you, we ask that you welcome Zeny with your loving and open arms into heaven. Please tell her we miss her, tell her we love her.

Zeny, I think about you every day. I think about how if you were here you would support me and you would push me and I miss that. I promise to you that I will make sure your grandchildren never forget you and they never will. I promised you a long time ago and I will keep my promise to take care of Joanne and our little ones. Zeny as I think back on this year especially on our sadness, our stress, and our ball of crazy emotions, I have to think happy thoughts of you and Princess Leia sitting around and listening to Prince and George Michael. They better know that with you up there, they have great company.

Hey mom, its your favorite son-in-law. I don't really know what to say here. I've thought about it a lot and figured it's more for us than for you. I think about you all the time and I am doing my best to take care of Jen. It is easier for me because I have Jen and she is so much like you. I miss our time together. I miss you. Love Jeremy.

Dear lola, 

You were always so sweet and kind to me,  you made me feel so welcomed and loved. When I would go over top my dad's and Joanne's I would get so excited when you would come over. I knew I would get those special quiet moments with you where you would ask me questions about my life and who I was. You never made me feel like I didn't belong. Even though I was "adopted" into your family, to me you are my blood, my lola. I will miss you terribly. 
I didn't know how sick you were for awhile. My heart broke when you left us. But I know you are out of pain now and that brings me comfort. Please watch over me and the boys. Be our guardian angel and guide us through our troubles and obstacles. 
There's this song I listen to, smile by nat king Cole. The first line is smile though your heart is breaking. That's what I will do for you lola. Each time I think of you I will smile because you only brought happiness to my life. I love you.

Dear Mom,

Im writing this because even though I hate greeting cards and I hate letters, i want to write this for you...

I spent all my life trying to figure out who I am and fill in the blanks. I tried a little of this and a little of that. One thing I learn from you was to always try your best.... the biggest thing I realized is that I always just wanted to make you proud. I always looked up to you because  you always had a way of figuring it out. All I wanted was for you to be proud of me. Proud of the man of ended up being.

I try and look back and see when all this started. When you feeling bad turned into E.R. visits.... to the numerous surgeries... to the hospital stays.

I'm writing this because I want to tell you that you are the strongest person I know. I will always remember that about you. I will always remember how you handled things one day at a time and nothing seemed to bring you down.

I'm sorry for not being there as much as I should have been. I'm sorry I complained about my life when I should of been grateful for everything you giving me. I'm sorry the fits I threws. I'm sorry for the "I love you, mom" I never said when I should... and I'm sorry it's taking me so long to write or talk to you about anything.

I'm writing this because I would give anything just to see you one more time. To say "I love you" one more time. To say "Sorry" one more time.

I'm writing this because I'm angry that I have to live life with biggest part missing. The lunches we won't go on anymore. The movies we won't watch together. The fishing trips without you. The trip to the Philippines we wont get to go on. You won't see me get married and you won't meet my kids. I feel like a part of me is in that coffin with you trying to still wake you up

I'm writing this because I wish your were still here. I wish I remembered what your perfume smelt like. I wish I could remember what your hugs felt like. It's hard to feel anything without you. I wish I remembered what flowers you like so I could put them in your hands instead of the plot of grass with you name on it.

I'm writing this so I can say thank you. You always made me feel loved. Even if we were arguing you would always called me back to make sure I was okay. To make sure I knew you loved me. Thank you for taking me to Disneyland. Thank you for making me feel like I wasnt alone. That I wasnt doing anything alone. Making me feel like I could do anything...

You are so beautiful.  Nothing was more beautiful than you. Everytime I look at the sun peaking through the clouds I see you.

I'm writing this because I will never love anyone as much as I miss you.

To the family: I am so sorry for your loss. She will always be by your side maybe not in sight but in spirit.  I pray for you all.

I met Zeny through the La Pieta International Prayer Group of Houston. She was introduced to me as my twin sister by a good friend of mine due to the fact that we were sporting the same size. That word became prophetic in a sense that I adopted her as my spiritual sister from that point forward. When she started getting sick, we would get updates from our prayer leaders, and we dutifully included her in our prayers and mass intentions.

God has a way of teaching us how to grow in virtue. I specifically asked Him to increase my charity towards my neighbors, and He showed it to me through the service of others. Zeny became my guinea pig from the time when she was placed on the transplant list at St. Luke's. I checked with her to see if I can help in any way and she would call me to request food from time to time. Being at the hospital gives one a feeling of imprisonment in addition to the lack of appetite from ingesting hospital food. I hated seeing my dearest sister starve. So I made it a point that when I can, I will make her some food. I would take the train from Main Street Square to Dryden to visit her at St. Luke's when I am able.

As a novice for the service that was called for, I brought her some salted dried fish (dilis) which was very high in sodium. First, she had a bite, then two followed, then the whole half of the sandwich bag was poured over her plate. When I asked her if she can have that, she would say, Ok lang yan. Walang bawal-bawal. Naka dialysis naman ako. We also shared some fried croakers that I fished from Galveston with some lemon juice and bagoong. After eating she would say, Salamat Eric! Napasaya mo ang tiyan ko (Thank you Eric, you made my tummy happy). You are welcome sister! would be my reply. I was scolded for giving her the salty foods. After knowing what she can and cannot have, I had to adjust the sodium levels to the bare minimum. Tita Zeny particularly enjoyed the fish, rice, okra, kamote tops, and saluyot leaves. From time to time, she would give me a call to request them and my brother in law and I would be in our backyard by nightfall with the flashlight plucking them from the plants. Whenever I knock on her window at room 8A in the hospital, I would see her face light up. She was always so happy to see me. When I sit with her at the hospital, most of our conversations concern life and family. My dearest friend always had some great advice for me as she herself mothered three children. She is like a mother to me. She would call me daily to have a chat and there would be times when we would be on the phone laughing for hours because she had so many jokes to tell. Never was a dull time with my dearest friend.

From September through November, I was able to visit, bring her food, and keep her company at the hospital. Then things got busier at work as we prepared for year-end close and I was not able to see her for three months. We still kept in touch by phone and she tells me that Tito Joe is learning how to cook sinigang. That's quite exciting!

In February 2016, some of the relics of St. Anthony of Padua were on tour in Houston. We venerated his relics at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on Feb 21st. I told Tita Zeny about it and she asked that I go back and bring a handkerchief with me to wipe his relics so that she can ask for his intercession also. She said that she will wipe the handkerchief on herself, pray for the organs to arrive, and place it under her pillow. So I went to see his relics again on Feb 28th in which I almost forgot to wipe the little towel I brought due to my excitement for taking pictures. When the crowd was being dispersed, I remembered the towel and I quickly went to the front to wipe the relics. The next day, Feb 29th, I called Tita Zeny and told her that I will be paying her a visit to give her the towel and the prayer cards to St. Anthony. This I did and she was excited to receive them. Without even a week's passing, on the evening of Mar 4th, I received a call from her asking me to pray for her because she might get the heart that evening. I hastily went to tell the First Friday/First Saturday devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary prayer group and asked them to pray for her that all will be well with the operation, and to thank God for the miracle we have received. The evening Eucharistic Adoration progressed lifting our hearts in prayer. Likewise, on the next day, the La Pieta Prayer Group of Houston offered a mass and prayers for her. I wrote a testimony on Facebook and attributed the miracle of her receiving the organs to St. Anthony of Padua. St. Anthony of Padua, among many miracles, is also attributed to finding lost things. In this case, he was able to find the much needed organs for Tita Zeny. Thank you St. Anthony of Padua. Pray for us!

I spoke to Tito Joe on Sunday to check up on her. She had just finished surgery for the kidney and will be in recovery for a while. So I said I will just visit her when the dust has settled. I was looking forward to bringing her more food. I was already thinking of the menu on my head.

Three weeks passed and I still haven't heard from her so I started to worry and called the hospital in which Jennifer, her daughter, answered the phone and told me that Tita Zeny have been sedated for a while because of seizures and that the doctors did not know what was causing the seizures. My heart broke into pieces. But I did still hope that one day she will wake up from it and we will see each other again. She told me before that she still has a mission to fulfill. She wanted to make a pilgrimage to the Philippines and build a church there to thank God. She also wanted to bring me on a tour to Germany. She said we can stay at her friend's house. 

Well, the Lord did have a mission for her. It may not have been here on earth. It may have to continue in heaven but our God who knows all things is the only one who decides. When we pray the Lords's prayer, in which we say, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, we know that our mission continues on to eternal life. It doesn't end when the flesh gives up the spirit. At the viewing, I still have the hope of a miracle. I asked the Lord that if He can raise Lazarus from the dead, He can do it again to my dear friend. I never lost hope in the Lord. But Lord, let your will be done and not mine. You know what's best for all of us. Tita Zeny is a very devout Catholic and a daughter of charity. She believed and trusted in the Lord in all circumstances. She fought the good fight and won the spiritual battle. We now have an intercessor in heaven.

We will greatly miss you my dearest friend. You rest in peace where there is no more pain, no more isolation, no more starvation, and now in eternal bliss with our Lord. Thank you for all the precious times we shared, all the laughter, all of your motherly advise, the opportunity to serve you, and most especially for continuing to intercede for us in heaven. It is my greatest pleasure to have found a true friend in you. It is very rare in this day and age. 

Tito Joe and family, please accept my warmest condolences. The plenary indulgence that I received at the Feast of the Divine Mercy, I offered it to Tita Zeny. If we only knew how quickly we can send souls to heaven!

I always felt that we had a special bond / a unique relationship. When we met we were both mothers of older children and so we discussed our profound love for our kids and she worried about her children as  much as I do. On a few occasions I remember her asking me to get her some Filipino food while she was in the hospital. Zeny always had an excellent knowledge of the Houston city streets.  Where I practically have none and she would always find it amusing when I would get lost.  Even though she was in the hospital she would be on the phone helping me with directions thru the chaos, I usually don't drive to new places in the city. I get lost easily but with her on the phone we would figure it out. It was an adventure. It was nice to share those adventures with her. I know it at least made her happy.
Zeny, I will miss our fun times and most of all I will miss you.

Dear Zeny,
May you rest in peace. We will all miss you but we are consoled by the fact that you are no longer in pain. You fought a good fight ! You are an inspiration to us. Thru all your physical suffering you hang in there being brave and always with a kind word and smile for family and friends. 
You a lived a great life living a legacy of caring, thoughtfulness, friendliness, kindness, always going out of your way to be of help to others and most of all living a life that God wants us to live. You have touched so many lives and have had a great influence on others leading us all to a good Christian life. You are a wonderful sister-in-law to me and I shall never forget you. I'll miss your smiles and our chit-chat and you will always be in my heart. Thanks for being my sister-in-law.

ZENY, So sad to hear you're gone to be with our Creator. Did not even have a chance to see you and say goodbye for the last time.

Over the years Zeny had become a very important part of our family. When our son Jacobo was in the process of proposing to Joanne, we would meet with Zeny on several occasions. She was always very nice and we always enjoyed her company and of course her delicious cooking (Lumpia was my favorite). We could tell that she had a Heartfelt Love for family and friends. She was always happy to socialize.
Zeny, we will always remember you with a Smile and the Love for your husband, your children and especially your Grandchildren. We Thank God for letting us meet you and being a part of your family. You will have a very special place in our heart for ever and ever. May you rest in peace, Amen. We will Miss You.

Tita/Ninang Zeny, I'm so greatful and blessed that we've met, through all the years you've been there for me to my ups and downs in life you always treated me as one of your daughter, that's why most people taught I was really your own daughter too, you always cheer me up and believe in me, I'm  missing you so badly Tita all our conversations, updates on our teleserye, when I joke around and we laughed together most of all your love and care to me and my kids, Tita you will always be in my heart and may you rest in peace in the arms of God. Rest in peace Zeny! I will always remember your smiling face as a greeter at St. James at the early 7:30 Mass. On days when it was obvious you did not feel well, you were always able to smile. God was truly present in your heart. Joe, I have been out of town for several weeks and just earned of Zeny's passing after Mass this morning. I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers.

I went to visit you yesterday. I remembered that whenever we pass by the cemetery, you will always say to me " this is where I will be buried and you better visit me since this is not very far from your house".
I miss all our weekend lakwatsa, our frequent phone calls. I know that you are in a better place with no more suffering but we sure miss you. Rest in peace Zeny.

I know that before we were even born, God knew how our lives would play out, he knew when we would die, and who our partner in life would be.  Mom, you were a fighter till the end. The pain and suffering you endured during the last six and a half months of your life in the hospital was a testament to your strength and how you wanted to live for your family and yourself. I will always remember that about you. I will also remember how much you wanted to help everyone you can.  We may have had our disagreements about life but you always had my well-being in mind.  I certainly understand this more now as a mother.  I understand why you were so strict with me, wanting to always protect me. You were always there when I needed you whether big or small. Thank you for having me as a daughter. I wish that I had more time with you but I know one day we will see each other again. I wish that Matthew and Mathias had more time to get to know you. I'm sure that you know that Dad was always by your side. He never wanted to leave you. He was there every step of the way. He's a devoted husband,father and grandfather, thank you for picking him out for us. Your faith never failed you, God had better plans for you up in heaven. I know that you are your grandkids and everybody else's guardian angel. Always watch over us. I know the pain we feel and the absence we feel in our hearts will always be there and I know that the pain will ease up one day.  I feel blessed that I was able to tell you I love you one more time before your last surgery and have you say it back to me. I will forever remember that.  Everyday since you've been gone my heart aches, I miss your voice and your advise.  I love you, mom...no one can ever replace you. Rest in peace and always guide us.

Zeny, it was a long and hard struggle.  We fought very hard even when the odds were against us.  We fought even when we felt, at times, it cannot be overcome.  We asked God for help.  We asked for His mercy.  We asked Him to grant His miracle.  But He has other plans for us.  It is hard to accept even now that you are gone.   I do not know when.  I do not know how, but I hope someday the pain of losing you will ease up.  
I am so honored and grateful to be you husband for so many years.  The life we shared is irreplaceable.  A life I would forever cherished. 
You will leave a permanent mark in my heart.  Your children will always remind me how versatile you are to have brought such unique, beautiful and exceptional people on earth.
You have captivated so many people of your profound generosity.   You always have a helping hands towards your friends, be it just a listening ears or sharing your time and talents.
Your battle against your illness was long and hard.  But you fought hard against unsurpassable odds.  Rest now in Peace in the Bosom of God's Hands.  You will be FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS.
