Andrew Jackson Reed

July 29, 1932 – July 20, 2016

Andrew Jackson Reed passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Mr. Reed would have be 84 years old on Friday.

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Virginia Suites Reed “Jenny”; Son, Darrell Duane Reed of Harvest, Alabama; daughter, Tammy Deanna Reed of San Diego, California; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Taylor Reed of Harvest, Alabama; one brother, Wayne Reed of Decatur, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

AJ served in the US Air Force for 20 years. He served God and his country, and was baptized in the China Sea in Okinawa. As a teenager he would carry a gallon of buttermilk to school for his lunch. At the age of 14 or 15, he would walk seven miles to see his sweetheart, Jenny. He was almost 17 years old when they married on July 23, 1949. Saturday would mark their 67th anniversary. Andrew did not have a middle name. When the military said he must have a middle name, Jenny his wife, at age 18, gave him his middle name Jackson.

You may visit with the family Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 1 – 3pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. Funeral services will commence at 3:00pm with burial to follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
