Elder Andrew Swoope, Jr. was born on January 11, 1929 in Huntsville, AL. Elder Swoope spent most of his younger years in Hillsboro, AL. He was a member of the Church of God In Christ for over 65 years. He was a fervent traveling evangelist and an Elder in the Church. No matter what the conversation was, it always ended with his evangelistic work.
He worked as a pipe fitter from 1944 until 1946 at the Mare Island Shipyards in Vallejo, CA. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Army from June 1948 until June 1952. He was a graduate of the Ordnance School, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. He was a skilled Combination Welder. He earned the Army Occupational Medal (Okinawa) and the Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged in June 1952 with the rank of Corporal. After four years of honorable service in the United States Army, he worked at the General Motors Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1989.
Elder Swoope passed away on October 11, 2019 in the VA Hospital in Birmingham, AL at the age of 90 years.
A Funeral Service, officiated by Dr. Curtis E. Banks, will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 2:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, with military honors. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Serenity Garden.
