Domenica “Mickey” Constantino Thomas died of end stage dementia at age 87 (February 24, 1931 –November 4, 2018). Mickey was born in Seattle, Washington in the Italian “garlic gulch” community in the shadows of Mt. Rainier. She was preceded in death by her parents Catherine Hubl Constantino, Lawrence Constantino; her husband Edward Folsom Thomas; and her brother Frank Constantino; and sister-in-law Opal. Mickey attended Our Lady of Mount Virgin Catholic Church and school in Seattle and worked as a Secretary/Assistant for the MGM films distribution center. She married Edward Folsom Thomas of Bremerton, WA on his return from serving his country in the Korean War. They moved from Seattle tied to a transfer with Boeing to New Orleans, LA and then to Huntsville, AL with the development of the NASA Apollo/Saturn Space programs.
Mickey loved music- she played piano and organ, was a member of the Queen of the Universe and St. Joseph Catholic Churches where she cantored, played piano accompaniment, and was a member of the choir. Mickey had a love of singing and joined Sweet Adelines International as an avid member of choruses in Seattle, New Orleans and Huntsville. She helped establish Huntsville’s Sweet Adelines Chorus, the “Space City Chapter” in the 1960s and was the first chorus director. Mickey was also a member of the Huntsville Community Chorus and played in the Methodist church bell choir. She worked as a secretary in electronics inside sales for TRW and was a member of Women in Electronics (WIE). She and Edward were great supports and workers for the S.R. Butler Band Parents Booster Association, serving as Secretary/Treasurers for almost a decade in support of their children. She loved gardening, the outdoors, camping and her pets. Mickey completed her dream to attend and graduate from college receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting/computer in her 50s.
Mickey is survived by her children: Lawrence Thomas, spouse Connie (Gooley), Gwen Thomas-LeBlanc, spouse Dennis LeBlanc, Jenny Thomas, Katie Atchley, spouse Wendell, and Cory Thomas, spouse Susan (Craddock) and her grandchildren: Jonathon, Joshua, Heather (spouse Yele Sodade), Thomas, Bethanie, Justin, Jeremy, John; and great grandson Elijah Sodade.
A Funeral Mass, followed by a Celebration of Life, will be at 1:00 p.m. on November 13, 2018 at Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Church – 10509 Segers Rd. Madison, AL 35756, with Father Joy Chalissery officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mickey’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
