James Dwight Owen

James Dwight (Cooter) Owen, age 80, was born September 30, 1943 in Marshall County, Alabama and passed away March 3, 2024 at Shepard’s Cove Hospice Care in Albertville, Alabama. Cooter lived in Lacey’s Spring, Alabama.

Cooter was preceded in death by his wife Doris Schafer Owen, his father Melvin J.P. (Buster) Owen, his mother Opal Lamon Owen, his brother Ray D Owen. He is survived by his sisters, Laquita Owen Wray and Janice Owen Bradford both of Arab, his brother Melvin Owen of Arab, and his sweetheart Mary Chaffin of Jasper, Alabama.

Cooter attended church at New Salem Baptist Church in Somerville, Alabama. He worked as a supervisor for the Maintenance Group at Chrysler Manufacturing Company over a span of 34 years. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and owning fast cars and antique vehicles.

The Owen family will receive friends and guests at a visitation and service in order to honor the life Cooter led. The visitation will be from 1:00pm until 3:00pm Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens. The funeral service will follow beginning at 3:00pm with Brother Frankie Flack officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Wray, Austin Wray, Steven Wray, David Flack, Caleb Mangum and Isaac Kritner; honorary pallbearer Heath Isom.
