Mary Kate Harper

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Michael Jackman of Grace Missionary Baptist Church, Holly, MI officiating. Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Saturday.

Mary Kate was born on January 31, 1924 in Carbon Hill, Alabama to Melvin and Roxie Best Thornton. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Huntsville. Mary Kate enjoyed painting, dancing, fishing and admiring flowers; but the love of her life were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Harper Sr., parents and three siblings.

Mary Kate leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Sandra H. McClendon (Vinse), Nancy H. Mills,

Mary K. Messer and Edward L. Harper (Karen); eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Mary Kate to Grace Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
