Born on July 16, 1938, in Alexandria, Alabama, Mary lived a life marked by creativity, devotion, and an unwavering love for her family. She was long-time member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Mary retired from Lockheed Martin after years of dedicated service, but her passions never slowed. She had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found tending to her garden or working in the yard, where she found peace and purpose. She also enjoyed refinishing furniture, sewing dresses for her granddaughter, and spending time in the kitchen cooking for those she loved. Her Chalupa was legendary, and her famous pumpkin pie was a holiday favorite.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earley Medders and Cora Griffith Medders, as well as her siblings Royce Medders, Donald Medders, Larry Medders, and Sara (Medders) Cosper.
Mary is survived by her loving children, Joey Torkar and Elissa Galloway; her cherished grandchildren, Mitchell Galloway and Audrey Torkar; many nieces and nephews, and her loyal companion, her dog Toby. She also leaves behind a community of wonderful friends, neighbors, and kind caregivers, whose love and support brought her comfort and joy in her final days. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to each of them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in Mary’s honor.
A visitation will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, followed by a service at 9:00 a.m. at Valhalla Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, located at 698 Winchester Rd. NE in Huntsville, Alabama, officiated by Father Bryan Lowe.
Mary's generous nature and kind spirit will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
